My first X2

All,

Just picked up an 88 X2 for 400 bucks, so stoked. My plan is for this to be my winter resto project. My question is what should i do now with the motor in terms of seeing if it is usable? It hasnt been started since 07. Plugs are rusty, lines are crusty, no battery, etc. Should i take the head off and put some oil or WD40 on the pistons and let it soak? I have a ton of reading to do the subject of rebuilding an engine so any tips on this would be most helpful.

Keep an eye out for a running donor sit down with a 750 motor in it.

If you're talking about the outside then it doesn't matter much.
If you're talking about the plug itself where spark actually happens I wouldn't even mess with it. If the plugs are rusting then the crank is rusty.

Just curious, was this the X2 that was for sale out by Kenmare?
Does the motor turn over at all? Thats usually a good place to start.

Yes it was. I did put a battery in it but nothing. It's a total tear down which I expected.

Sbt short block is cheap or a 750 sitdown, tough to find a healthy 750 in my area though...skis are getting old
