I guess I start with a little background. I started riding standups in 99'. My first ski was a 94' SN. I think it probably had some issues but it was a slow boring pig. Started a family and sold it in 04' The wife and I both really missed it so we found a good deal on 2 - 95' SXi's and a trailer in 09' and got back into it. I loved my SXi but happend to ride and like some SJ's that first summer. Found this site in the meantime and it only fueled my desire to get a RN. I had been looking for one in my price range but good skis (SJ in particular) are few and far between here in CO.

I heard through the grapevine one of my buddies was going to sell his RN so I taked to him and decided I would try to get it. Spent the whole weekend arguing with my wife about why I needed a different ski when the one I had worked just fine. Finally convinced her and called my buddy to let him know I was going to get it. Well get this... His wife talked him out of selling it! He told me to check with his friend from Pueblo to see if he know of one for sale. That friend happens to be RMBC Freeride on here. I had met him at the lake last summer so I gave him a call and he had one for sale.

Not an AM hull with a huge motor but a big step up for me. I am very excited and can't wait for it to warm up!

Here is what I got...
98' RN, 62t case, 61x cylineer bored 81.5, milled OEM head, timing advanced 3 deg, ocean pro flame arresters, UMI 0 deg bars, pole spring, R&D ride plate, Skat Track impeller, 24/7 footholds, turf, bilge pump, new sterring cable, intermediat driveshaft, and starter motor.

Looks good man. Never seen that sticker scheme before.

I might recomend some sort of intake grate if it doesn't have one.

I think we need a Colorado group ride this summer!

Thanks guys. It is very clean. RMBC rebuilt it this winter so everything has been gone through. It hasn't been water tested yet but he's going with me the first time this year to make sure everything is good. Haven't even rode it yet and I'm already jonesing a factory pipe.

It has a stock grate... or were you reefering to getting an AM grate. Any suggestions?

A CO group ride would be awesome! Where do you ride at?

You must be in/near Pueblo I assume?

Ya the intake grate is huge. I would strongly recommend it. The OEM grate was the worst I was cavatating and couldent stay hooked up very well.

Everyone seems to love the Worx 201. That is what I bought and it made a huge bight/day difference in the ski. Handles so much better and you can stay hooked up when launching off wakes. I would say it was one of my best mods.

Worx 201 http://www.yamahasuperjet.com/worx-intake-grate-vs-protec-intake-grate/

Unfortunately they just increased the price from $135ish to $180ish. But like I said, well worthwhile mod. Ive ridden other skis with different intake grates, but the Worx definitely feels the best. I also really liked adding a quick steer plate, made the ski alot "funner". That can probably wait, personally I would definitely get a quick steer and intake grate before a B-pipe.

Thanks for the info. I'm in C Springs. Usually ride at Meredith east of Pueblo and we get down to Navajo a couple times a year. Havent rode anywhere north of pueblo.

First ride was this weekend and I couldn't be happier! The throttle response was night and day compared to my SXi. It was cold and I'm a sissy so I didn't spend much time on it. Main goal was to make sure everyting was working right before Memorial since the ski hadn't seen the water since it was rebuilt.

Huge thanks Neil!

It's going to be a good summer

Put a pipe on and had my first ride last weekend and I was very happy with the power/speed increase. I set the water per Factory Pipe and cussed them when I tried to adjust the bottom screw. I never could get on it but my wife was a good sport and did it for me:grumble:. Had to phone a freind to figure out I had an exhaust leak and needed to make some carb adjustments. Thanks once again Neil! I think I still have some tuning to do but over all very happy.

I bought into the pipe hype and went with that before the quick steer but it's next on my list.

My bilge pump wasn't working so I took it out last night to have a look. I was hoping one of the zip tie ends I lost jamed it up but turns out the impeller just spins on the shaft. So glad the pump took a dump. I found out I didn't route the water line to the exhaust manifold very well and it was rubbing on the coupler. I don't think I could have got another 5 min on that hose before it broke through, cut off water to the engine, and flooded the ski.

Making a 5 hour drive down to Navajo this weekend and very happy it didn't happen down there.

So my SJ tray is narrow. I loved the WDK revs in my sxi but feel very duck foot here. I have no moves so this is just for fat man rec riding comfort when in the holds. Thinking of cutting out the bright spots to move my heels out a bit.

I've seen the adjustable holds and a pic of someone cutting the back wall to somewhere around an inch, but I have no desire to go that far.

Not going to get into the pipe am I?

Pros/con?

Uh-oh, somebody's got a winter project going! FWIW those are 24/7 footholds... If you cut them like you are showing, they will be similar to revs you liked.

I say, since you're this far go for it. You will not hit the pipe as it is only close under the toe area of the foothold.

But beware, you will likely find wet foam and then you'll want to dig it out. Don't be afraid to call me with any questions.

Thanks Neil. I was a little upset with myself for even tearing the turf off but my buddy Jameson convinced me I could make them better. The best part is trying to get the wife to understand why I want to mess with a ski I was so happy with. I keep going back and forth on opening it up or just putting truf back on snice everyting always snowballs. I'm going to consider my options a little longer but I'll probably end up in the garage with a glass of whisky and an angle grinder sooner than later.

If I listened to whisky more often than my wife I would have far more toys and projects in my garage! hmmm.....

But I digress... if the Whisky convinces you to cut and dig... just let me know before you get all crazy and want to refoam and such. I would leave the back/bottom half empty and put a couple drain screws in. it won't sink. And if (when?) it takes on any water thru the newly-fabbed footholds, you will be able to drain it out, rather than re-soaking your new foam..

My footholds are a bit further back also. I think you will like the stance more.

I didnt have any wet foam in my 97 so knock on wood. Thats a pretty big undertaking if you wanna defoam-refoam....

I got lazy and didn't do anything with the holds. Currently doing a crappy job of replacing the turf.
