Freestyle NEED HELP WITH STOCK SKIS

So, recently my family just bought a 1994 fx1 and a 1995 sn sj. Both of them are completely stock and have not had a single upgrade besides a bilge in the sj. I want to ride some light free style for fun with the sj or fx1 whichever one is better for it I will mod. I'm 16 so I don't have a huge budget for mods. What does everyone recommend? I have really good knowledge with engines however I have never done fiberglass work before. Please leave recommendations!!

Leave them both stock. Get a job, save your money, ride those things in the meantime, and when you're ready to drop around $10k for a ski, then go buy something. An exhaust worth putting on those skis, plus rejetting the carb, around a grand. You can have plenty of fun on either one and they will both jump wake better than any Kawasaki. Take it from somebody who was you once!

If you are a novice leave the bodywork alone, there are very few body changes you can make that are going to make a huge difference in the way a stock ski handles , tubbies maybe but you can go with bolt on tubbies that require little to no actual bodywork. The small stuff that will make a difference are ride plates, intake grates ,better impellers and handlebars , aftermarket exhaust will make a huge difference but that's an expensive mod that requires some tuning skills any way you go about it.

Learn how to ride what you have to it's fullest potential ,add a few mods along the way , later you can start moving up the performance ladder, just remember every rung gets more expensive than the last one on that ladder.

You are young and have a lot to learn. Stick with the hobby for a few years, learn how to ride and tune. Most people just show up, throw a lot of money around, and vanish very quickly.

If it were me id do as the other said. Learn to ride is the best effort spent. As far as "mods" i feel these are important:

-straight handlebars/ decent grips
-good impeller
-decent turf
-decent scoop grate

Those mods will make the ski alot nicer to ride and hook up. Have fun and ride as often as you can.

Do NOT mod that FX-1 !!!

An un-modded FX-1 is so rare as to be priceless.

If you can learn to ride it, thereafter you can likely ride anything.

Do the fx1, sn sj, and rn sj all use the same size grate?

What about mods like WFO mentioned?
- bars
- turf
-impeller
- grate
All of these could be removed decently easy beside the turf.

The FX-1 is more a novelty ski. The tiny pump limits its low speed thrust ability. You have to lean it on an edge to make it turn, like and old Kawasaki. Fun to ride once you figure it out. The Superjet is bigger and easier to ride, its larger pump can make decent thrust. These skis are old, have they been stored inside? If not then catching up with maintenance will keep you busy for a while.

Ok then:

Blowsion Heavy Duty Pole Spring;
Bilge pump bracket, Rule 500 bilge pump, Blowsion Yamaha handlebar bilge pump switch;
MSD Enhancer;
Odi Lock On grips without flange;
Mikuni SBN 44 oem carb rebuild kit;
and I like this upgrade which requires the drilling of 3 holes on each of the bond rails:

FX1 is basically a 550 with a bit more power. Fun but leaves a lot to be desired even with mods. Leave it alone. Rideplate, intake grate and bars at most. otherwise don't touch it.

the square nose, same thing. Bars, rideplate, scoop grate and some good turf. Learn the ski, learn to maintain it. Otherwise you're going to dump a bunch of money into Something you don't entirely understand and may abandon.

Stu is right there is only so much power you can push through that small pump and putting in a bigger pump in so it will handle decent horsepower is a nightmare on that ski .
