Super Jet Need some advice on SN SJ mods.

I'm looking for some advice on what I should do to get more power out of my 61x. I've only ridden flatwater and don't plan on riding any surf, so, I'm basically just looking for speed and handling. This is my first ski and it came with a 701 that was bored out to a 754, 47mm carb, carbon reeds, MSD ignition, modified CDI box, stock pipe, 00 cylinder and it's duel cooled. I was thinking about drying out the stock pipe (also thinking of a type 9 dry pipe) and get a lightened flywheel, just for the time being. My question is, if you were in my shoes, what would your next move be? Any info would be appreciated. I posted in PWC and didn't get much feedback, then I posted in the SJ mods thread that's stickied here and haven't heard back. Thanks in advance, fellas.

What kinda prop you got? I can't recommend anything for speed but if its stock I'd defiantly upgrade that. Also get yourself a used b pipe when one pops up here. The combo of those two will give you alot more speed.

Thanks, man. Sht, I'm pretty sure that it's pitched at 13/16? There's a b-pipe on PWC right now that I'm pming the guy about. What would be a reasonable offer for a used b-pipe?

A pipe, any pipe will make a bigger difference than anything else on your ski right now. Coffman Sizzler is about half the price of a b-pipe and is 85% as good.

You probably won't notice any difference with a lightened flywheel, you really need a pipe. The stock exhaust really chokes the engine.

Thanks, man. A guy I know has a lightened flywheel that he said he'd do a straight across trade for, so I figured I might as well while he has it. Yeah, I think I'm just going to get a pipe. I just want to make sure I get the right one. I've been trying to find threads and discussions via search option and google and from what I understand the Factory Limited B pipe gives you more low and mid range and the Factory Mod B pipe gives more mid and top end, is that correct? Same with the Type 4 and the Type 9, low and mid, from what I understand. So, I'd be looking for something with more top end, right? I mean, I'm sure any pipe besides stock will let it breathe more, but do I need a girdled head with any of these pipes and would it be a good idea to just get a girdled head while I'm at it and do it all at once? Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it!

B pipe is adjustable and tunable to get the power curve you want. If you want more top end b pipe can do it. If you want more bottom end b pipe can do that too. Chamber s are easy o get so if you buy a pipe with a limited you can always sell or trade it for a mod.

It's pretty simple really. I got one of those things called a DUI, and all my friends that ride usually head to Havasu every other weekend and a local lake a few times a week. Once I get my license back, I'll be making trips all over, but, for the time being it doesn't really matter to me since this is my first ski and I'm just getting acclimated with how it handles. Plus, buoy racing is a little bit more appealing to me than freestyle (at the moment). Not to mention, I'm unaware of places to launch around Malibu/Santa Monica/Ventura. Beggars can't be choosers, man. I'm just here for the ride.

I would for sure try to get a pipe for your motor. It will wake it up a lot. Sounds to me like the previous owner probably had a pipe on it but didnt want to sell it with the ski. pipes are usually one of the first engine mods. I recommend the b pipe but if you are on a budget something else will work. as for handling mods, get some tubbies, a rideplate, and a scoop.

I can tell you the biggest bang I felt with my 701 SN was having it ported and the head decked. I also had the nozzle bored. It was night and day. I am running a red pipe with modified water line routing and a FCV as well. It jumps out of the water when you grab the throttle everyone that rides it is really surprised.

I did a b-pipe,skat 10/18,milled head and I woke it up nice but I went to a big hub prop and a new stubby cone and it feels like a new ski...crazy bottom end

I'm stuck between b-pipe, type 9 dry pipe, r&d wet pipe and a Coffman sizzler. I'll probably just save for a b-pipe and throw that it there.

Oh man! I am going to port the :):):):) out of mine. With that and a pipe, I'd imagine it'd be a world of difference.

Does the big hub and the stubby affect your top end at all, too?

If its your first ski id say ride it alot before determining whether you want more top end or bottom end. Have you ever ridden stand ups?? You may be really happy with a stock SXR. Those are very fast, stable, cruising/racing style skis. The superjet is a totally different animal. Typically you dont rip around a lake at full throttle like so many couch cruisers! (ill never understand the fun in that!!) A B-pipe will never be a bad upgrade since its tunable and rideplates are a quick easy swap if your not happy with one. My 08 SJ goes faster than most boats on the lake when i want it too and has pretty good snap on the low end. In my opinion for lake riding youll have more fun with a very snappy bottom end than a faster top speed. Bottom line is get out and ride it and test out a few other skis before you commit to any big dollar mods. Just my opinion of course. Good luck and welcome to a very expensive and addicting sport!

Get a girdled head so you don't crack the cylinders. Then get a b pipe, a FCV, Different impeller, and finally port it. MSD ignition is a plus as well.

Oh, and you can have a ski with crazy bottom end that still does 45mph, plenty fast.
