We usually ride in a group of about 5 guys. Three of us have big bore strokers with some aggressive porting. We usually go through a tank of gas in a little over 2 hours.
Recently one of the guys got a 650 SN with a ride plate, scoop grate, an aftermarket flame arrestor, and a Coffman pipe. It had a stock impeller. He would suck through a tank of gas in 1.5 hours! At first I thought he wasn't taking the hood off to confirm that he was filling the tank to full, but he swears he did.
This week we installed a Skat Trak impeller on it. It's a really low one like a 8/16 or something. It works really well with the ski and it really launched off the boat wake much better.
When we were done yesterday after 2 hours of riding he still had half a tank of gas left!
I was amazed. We are pretty sure it's because he was cavitating so badly last time that he was wasting all his gas just trying to keep up with the rest of the group. Now that his pump is working he's using less gas.
