New reeds or no??

i have my reeds out of my 87 650 SX and i have no reason at all to belive they are not the stock reeds that came with the ski 19 years ago. will it be in my best interest to get new ones? if so are the carbon reeds better? mine look like stainless steel or alumium... what are the signs of wear? they look great, but then again i have an untrained eye

If they are steel they are stock. I would replace them with an aftermarket brand because if the metal petal brakes off it will cause some damage. You might want to give Paul from JRMagoos a call so he can get you some new ones.

The stainless ones last forever pretty much. Not sure if you would see a difference in only changing reeds. I think a 44mm carb would be money better spent than the reeds.
If the reeds are sitting flush on the reed cage they are ok.

Yes, get rid of the Stainless steel reeds ASAP!! Anything is more safe than that.
Dont settle for some off noname brand either. They will not last and will lose their memory and sealing ability...
Stick with Boyesen, or Carbon techs are real good IMO, but dont know if they make them for the 650SX. The Bad Bones ones that have been on Ebay before are good ones too.
