new sj, help me out

hey i just got an sj with scuppers and i am going to put in a set of bilge pumps until i get used to the ski, its already wired and i just have to drop in the pumps. has anyone ever tried to use the rule 500 automatic pumps instead of just the normal 500s

oh yea sorry, i was trying to find out if i can just drop them into the old 500 mounts and just plug them in or if you have to do anything different to install automatic pumps

and right now i'm just riding flat

auto pumps dont work right unless on an even keel, so it would be good to have if(when) your scupper leaks or you lose it in a wave.
idk how the auto switches deal with sand and saltwater, probably not good.

they dont fit in the same cages

If you have the mounts just get the manual rule 500, in the future atwood at wal-mart makes ones that IMHO have a better "twist-lock" securing mechanism.

Some of the new Rule auto pumps I have seen have a built in delay of 2.5 minutes. They will power up and if there is water present the current draw is high and the pump will run until no more water where the current draw drops and the pump shuts off. The other kind have a float switch that turns it off and on. I would not use either of those types, but rather just get the cheaper regular 360 or 500 gph pumps. The 360s will not hydrolock as much as the 500s. Get a sealed switch and run it through the ground wire of the pumps to avoid having the hot lead exposed to reduce corrosion problems and shocks if the hot gets exposed to salt when using a handle bar switch. Fuse the hot with a 10 amp and you will be set.. JSS sells a good dash mount military grade sealed switch that will last for years. http://www.jetskisolutions.com/
