Hello,

Post number 1!

I picked up a 1996 SJ under the recommendation from folks over at GreenHulk.net. Here is the original thread which got this adventure all started: http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=206409 The ski is a little rough around the hull, but the engine parts and aftermarket are really good. After selling the trailer it came with, I ended up stealing this by paying only $1200. Here is SOME of the aftermarket which it has:

1996 Superjet / Factory B Pipe / ADA Head / Lite-Flywheel / Wamilters Fuel Pickup / MSD enhancer? / Flame Arrestors / Bored Nozzle / Pump Cone / Ride Plate / Solas 13/17 / Intake Grate / Quick Water Dump (Is this called a Scupper Valve??) / Shortened Pole / Foot Holds / HudroTurf / Dual Bilge / Shaved fuel cap (Hull) / UBI Billet Throttle / UNI Grips / Shortened Pole / Adjustible Stearing Head (UNI?)

The hull being so bad off; I ended up ordering a MotorHead Graphics kit and will also take care of any Marine-Tex, fiberglass repairs, and any paint work.

So; there I am! I'll try to use the tech sections and search to answer some questions; but if anyone cares to answer the following I sure dont mind :)

1. Ordered carb rebuild kits (Bogs sometimes on water). Getting 2mm needle and seats with 95g spring. What should pop-off pressure be set at? What jets should I put on the list? Any other stock carb mods a good idea while I'm in there?
2. It would seem the battery is heavy enough to tilt the ski in the water. The ski leans to the right while floating. Solution if any?
3. At speed this ski is very very VERY unstable. Part of it is a learning process, but this ski has no sponsons or tubbies. Does it need not have them?

Thanks again!
Eric

You can buy a light weight battery or just live with the tilt.lt wont cause you any problems.

And welcome to the money pit!

Welcome the best site for stand ups! What ride plate and intake grate? What speed is it unstable? No solutions for tilting, it's a sj live with it. What carb kits did you order?

I think the intake and ride plate are Worx. The ski is unstable in a straight line at probably 3/4 speed.

Genuine Mikuni kits they were $50 each. New needle seats and springs. Haven't bought jets yet don't know what's in there first need to check. Do you know what jets would get things close?

Thank you

How much experience do you have riding standups? Ski is not unstable, you just have to learn to ride it at speed. You need to be riding with one foot forward, and the rear one needs to be perpendicular to the ski. This helps you balance. You have to learn to let the ski float under you. Also you need to squat a little. IF you stay standing upright, you are making the ski really top heavy. The SJ acts kinda like a bass boat, faster you go the less the hull is in the water. An SXR is the opposite, It is a wet hull design. You can damn near go wide open standing straight up and relaxed.

Ok that makes sense. I have really no basis for comparison or know how to even ride this thing. A Kawasaki standup owner gave it a ride and he wiped out pretty badly. He had experience too said the ski was very unstable. This is kinda what I have to go by.

yep, they are sketchy. after a half dozen days out on the water of 3hrs each time you'll have it down. they are like learning to ride a bike, on ice. practice slow turns. speed is easy, slow riding is the hard part.

its like riding a 65hp 2x4". practice alot. ive got a good 15 hrs in the seat so far, and still end up swallowing water often.

Yea that's me. Can't kill the suby. Two weeks ago it towed three motorcycles to tn and back. 2200 lb.

you seen it towing my gp1200r? Btw I'm looking for a small duel trailer that will fit into an 8' wide garage.

N&S should be 1.5 for your setup with 95g spring. Jetting 75low 135high for your setup as well.

We have them if needed.
