SX/SXi/SXi Pro Noob factory pipe question...

Ok guys I finally got a factory b pipe for my 02' sxi pro. I looked up jetting on factories site and it said to use stock jets. Here are my dumb noob questions.
1) is this info accurate? Just back them out a touch and tune from there? If anyone rembers their settings let me know, I'm still new to these things! (stock motor with prock filters)
2) can I paint the expansion chamber with some high temp paint or does that cause problems?
3) anyone have a pic of their modded hood for clearance of the pipe?
Thanks guys. I appreciate any help or tips....

Cut air vent flush with the hood! I used valspar indoor/outdooor spray paint to paint over a weld in the pipe and hasn't show any signs of fading/flaking. As far as jetting try stock out and see how it goes start at 2 turns out and work your way in until it hits hard on bottom then work on top end! Bog is rich stall is lean simple as that

Thanks man, I hate asking stupid questions but I'm not having alot of luck with searching. I am assuming you cut the secton of the vent off that the tube connects to. I havent got the pipe yet, should be here this week.

i put 75 jets in the bottom end and lower my spring to 80 gram to compensated for the aftermarket flame arrestors your supposed to use. i took a thn cutoff wheel and cut all the underside of the hood as flush as i could then sanded it smooth.

With around 175 lbs compression and a/m filters run a 155 high speed jet take your intake and epoxy in the crossover tube and advance the timing by sloting your pickup coil and running your top screw adj. on the pipe out a 1/4 and the other 2 closed and adjust the carb screws from there. After you get it adjusted then put a restrictor in the water line going to the tail cone of the pipe for even crisper response.

thanks for the info, pipe should be here tonight and I'll start putting it together. gotta wait on my coil to come back from jetskisolutions and I'll start tuning. I dont know if the adjuster screws are going to move on the exhaust, in the pics the pipe didnt look super clean so Im thinking they might me siezed, I just hope the last owner had it setup right.

You should be able to free them up with some heat directly applied to the thread around the screws with a blow torch.

You will need them to be loose as thats the whole point in having a tuneable head pipe:smile:

Each engine is different so to fine tune the exhaust is a must! Will give you way more effect if it is tuned properly!

Good luck dude!!

First of all...

Why don't you begin to download the real FP installation instruction.
www.factorypipe.com Clic on Installation.
For your hood, remove the 2 tubes and cut off the rear air chamber.

I have a FP on mine since 2001. No problem with this pipe, very reliable. And get ready to have more hp under your feet

Thanks, I saw that on FP's site. I have the hood all trimmed up and exhaust/cooling lines all done. I just need to get to the water to tune the carbs, I'm gonna see how it runs with the stock jets and go from there since thats what the site suggests. I also downloaded the pdf on mikuni carbs for a little direction on tuning and read several post on adjustments in my spare time. (I feel stupid never tuning a carb before when I work on cars for a living lol. VW/subaru havent used carbs for a LONG time)I hope to get out tonight and get it squared away for the weekend.

You may want to check your pilots for yourself, as the FP manual stated my 98 SXI Pro should have 75 pilots, and it actually had 67.5. Big difference in how it run between the 2 jets. I have an extra 2 75's if you need them, just let me know.

Thanks, Ill look into that this winter. I am running stock high side adjustment and one turn out on the low side with no bogging or stalling. I do hope to get some more HP out of fine tunning it, I dont really notice that much more low end power, dig difference at mid and top though(where I dont need it)

If you are talking about this :

I found that it was incorrect. My stock ski did not come jetted this way.
Comment : Some applications may find #80 pilot better.
