Noob to stand ups

Im learning to do slides and I read somewhere that you need to let off the throttle when the pump breaks loose, otherwise when it hooks back up, it can break the shaft? Is this true?

you need to let go of the throttle to break loose, then use the throttle to hook back up....kinda

You will not be able to break the shaft if everything is maintained properly, worn splines or a cracked coupler will be the first things to fail when being abused.
