Paint my Ducati

A girl stopped short on me over the weekend. I cracked the left side fairing, broke the radiator and a few other small things.. It's a 2013 Ducati Hypermotard. It's already all fixed. I didn't replace any parts. The fairing was repaired and now it's primed and ready to go. I'm thinking about painting it the yellow that came on the 2008 Ducati 1098. I tried my best at photoshopping it (first time playing with the program so bear with me). I feel like the silver subframe needs to be powdercoated black and the wheels powdercoated gold. IMO if that were done it would look pretty kool. I probably wouldn't do either of that right away. Thoughts?

Killer bike, i love the ducati hypermotards.
I think the colorscheme you have in the pic looks badass. I like the frame a different color like that, but black would be clean as well. Thats pretty damn good for your first go at photoshop :)

I agree....I think the color scheme in your picture above is dopeeeee!

@Balduccimoto .....how do you like that bike? Ive never owned a street bike, and hardly have ridden dirtbikes, but if I were to get a street bike, I think the hypermotard would be on the top of my list.

I love this bike. I have owned a 88 harley sportster, 02 yamaha roadstar warrior, 06 yamaha R6, '11 ducati 848 and now this '13 hypermotard. So i've tried quite a few different motorcycles .. this is my first "standard" "upright" motorcycle so I could be a little biased (there is always something better out there). This motorcycle has a nice little 821 in it that really shines in the lower gears. It's geared just right. First gear power wheelies are effortless, but the power begins to taper off on the highway. I can't say that is a bad thing because it keeps me, myself, and my body parts in tact. My favorite bit is the ABS and traction control. Alot of people don't trust ABS on a motorcycle, but lose the front once and break a clavicle and you will begin to understand why ABS is very nice. This thing also doubles as a nice comfortable tourer. It's a jack of all trades - master of none. I have the top case, passenger grab handles, and windscreen that I can mount within 30 minutes and go for a calm ride. Or pull it all off and tear up some roads and off roads (it does OK off road, but the tires are far from good lol)

The yellow to the Ducati 1098 is CRAZY expensive. It is PPG Global line and it was approximately $400 all said and done. So at the store I looked on my phone and found the 2015 corvette stingray in "Velocity Yellow" which looks pretty close. That cost $110 for a quart of base/clear. A far cry from $400.. I painted the repaired fairing early and now just waiting for it to dry. I really dig the color. I think there should be enough left over to do the wheels..

Check out my ghetto paintbooth and my Snapchat photo. You better believe I sent this to every woman because panties gon' be flyin' off with this yellow! Still waiting on returned snaps.. waiting.. :D

So first of all, I like your rendering and great work in photoshop!
I would maybe add a little more red to the wheels i.e. a bigger stripe or something but I think leaving the wheels in a subdued color in contrast to the yellow fairings is a great overall contrast.

And lastly... I was gonna comment earlier when I read this but I found myself (someone who has never been on anything more than a 50cc scooter) shopping for a Ducati. So thanks for that.

Red wheels would be pretty kool actually. The paint on the frame is PPG paint. Probably costs as much as the yellow. I could find a decent match and I think a pint would be enough. I think I will try photoshopping the wheels red with a yellow stripe. That will be another project in itself that will have to wait until the front tire is ready to be changed.

On a side note, this forum is great. I get more response in the bike section here than I do over at the Ducati forum.

It was too late to get a photo of the paint in the sun. Here is a test panel fitted to the bike. At first I wasn't sure, but after a little while I think it will look good when it's finished. It's such a radical change that I kind of got some shock lol

All the fairings finished .. Im waiting (impatiently) for the clearcoat to dry so I can mount them up. Anyone who can give me a decent deal on vinyl, or barter for 3D printed goods? :D

What a nightmare it was! My air compressor broke half way through spraying the base coat. I think it overheated because I have it in the back room with the oil burner. I usually have the window open, but it turns out someone had closed it. That motor was VERY hot and its an air cooled compressor.

I had to go down the block to my neighbor's house to borrow his air compressor just to finish the job.

The red frame really clashes with the yellow IMO. Not a fan of yellow though so take that with a grain of salt so to speak.......

Didn't like the first pic with just the front fairing, looks too much like Mickey D's colors. The latest complete pics look awesome though! Never have I ever seen a yellow hypermotard.

Think I agree with vumad, I want more color!

Would love to rip a hypermoto, definitely seems like the best of all the motorcycle worlds.

Ive been wanting to wrap my ski with mcdonalds cheeseburgers for a while now. Maybe youll beat me to that idea haha ;)

I still love that color combo. A colored sprocket might be a bit much tho, might take away from how the frame stands out.

I need to pull my supermoto out of the garage and give it a dusting. Been wanting to ride so bad lately
