Any paint will work but you have to prep the area properly which is where all the work comes in. I think I spent about about 2-3 weeks stripping and sanding and then 2 days painting. I just used spray paint and then did a polyurethane clear coat over it.

well i dint clear coat mine, but i sanded it down, bondo any chips, and it looks okay, but the paint is peeling! any ideas? would the clear coat fix that problem?

yeah clear coat fixes everything, its peeling because there is no protectant over it and thats what the clear coat does.

Sanddown, paint, and Gel-Coat the bottom.

yeah poly clear will do the trick. I like to use krylon fusion paints. it adheres really well but you have to follow the instructions. You need to recoat within 24hrs or after 7 days and make sure you dont put it on too thick because it wont cure.

I spent about 30-40 mins of wet sanding the hull cover to make sure i had a good clean surface for my paint to adhere to. Then i used a paint prep aerosol spray(total prep is the brand i used) to make sure there was no grease or anything. Hosed it off and let it dry then put 2 coats krylon fusion on. I also did the handle pole at the same time but i dont have any pics of it.

I didnt paint the hull because i was going to cut it up and mod it. also there is no clear on that because it was just going to be my base.

I prefer paint to gelcoat. Gelcoat is more durable but it's much more expensive and difficult to use. It's also much more difficult to touch up.

I just repainted the bottom of of the nose on mine because it was getting chewed up from beaching it. Pull it a little forward on the trailer then I just sanded it by hand for about 2-3 minutes to get any loose chips out and sprayed away. Total time to repaint the bottom of the nose, 20 minutes...and now it'll be good for another 20-30 beachings.

If you have access to a spray gun use it by all means, spraying right out of a can wont look half as good. But like noted above the prep takes a long time, it only takes a couple minutes to actually paint. But definitely use clear, it not only protects the paint from chipping, but also helps fill in any imperfections.
