Painting a BOB Hull

I’ve got a couple of questions for some of the guys who have painted hulls!

I attached the paint invoice of the products I plan on using. Will be getting sprayed out of a Graco bottom feed HVLP gun.

After using epoxy paint in the engine bay to give it some life this week, I’ve come to the conclusion it is a pain in the ass to clean up and I’m second guessing putting that in my gun. With that being said do you guys prime your skis with epoxy? No primer? High build? What primer are y’all using?

Other than that I’m doing BCCC with PPG paint
The epoxy primer, BC and CC are all PPG products from what I understand but it’s mixed/made by a company called Shop Line.
Is there another brand I should look into?

Any other pointers are appreciated!

The epoxy primer is more of a sealer than a primer, it's main use is to prevent bleed-through from whatever is on the ski now to whatever you are painting on top of it, I like to use Urethane primer on top of the epoxy primer then shoot the color, PPG is top of the line paint , even the shopline series, basically PPH throws nothing away so shopline was actually top of the line paint from years past , as PPG develops new paint systems they keep the older ones and reduce the price.

I’m not familiar with the ppg line so I’m not familiar with the mix ratios On those products. Is it 1:1 with hardener for primer, 2:1 with reducer for basecoat and 4:1 with hardener for clear? Knowing what the ratios are first helps to know exactly how much reducer and hardener to buy.
I like an epoxy high build primer due to it being easy to sand and hides all of the sanding scratches very well. Make sure to wet sand with 400 grit before basecoat to knock down the orange peel and give the paint better adhesion. Most primers are ready to sand in 4-6 hours.

All the mix ratios are different now, you will have to get info for specific products from your PPG dealer

The primer is 2 parts epoxy primer 1 part hardened, BC is 1:1 paint:reducer, CC 2:1 Hi-Gloss clear:Medium Topcoat Hardener.
1/2 Gal extra reducer if needed for CC which I’ll verify with the shop. I will look into High build Epoxy Primer

Does anyone use a flex additive for painting skis? I ended up with some cracks on an SJ I did maybe 10 years ago.

What is the purpose of using a urethane primer over the epoxy primer? I understand the epoxy is more of a sealer, so would the urethane primer on top create a better end result or would I still achieve the same result from using just an epoxy primer?

Depends on the bodywork under the epoxy primer, if it still needs leveling out some epoxy is not way to go, high build urethane works much better.
