painting RN hood...

Hi, the paint finally let loose on my '98 SJ hood, so it's time for a repaint. But, I've seen pics of a lot of RN hoods that have white spots, etc which leads me to think that paint adhesion may be a general problem on these hoods...? Is this a known thing, and are there some prep recommendations to prevent this from happening again? My guess would be that mold release is constantly leeching from the SMC...

Also, anybody have the specific paint code for the Yamaha Blue used on a '98 (I think this color was used from '98-01?)

Finally, and good cheap source for the OEM (or otherwise) Superjet decals?

Thanks!

If you are going with a base coat clear, you need to use an epoxy primer.
You can use a 2k primer but it doesn't bond as well.
Ive used both with great outcomes.
If you are using gel-coat no need to prime.
With both you will have to prep the hood for paint/gel.
Sand off all the old paint down to the original material.
Base coat clear I would end up with a 400 grit before priming.

thanks for the help guys...especially regarding the epoxy primer. I think I found the right paint code, and will probably get the paint itself from color-rite or blowsion.

Also, in case anyone is looking, Riva has the decals listed as available on their site.

Thanks again!
