part options...

I decided I don't want to sell my superjet. I'm feeling better recently and am looking to make a few improvements.

What are my options for front toe hold WITH fire extinguisher holder? Right now I know of Tom21 and would plan to buy from him.

What are my options for trim? I've heard of people having issues with cables breaking. I don't think any of the trim systems on the market are reversible (up or down) so I would want up lever. Just looking to keep the nose up on the face of a wave. I'd prefer affordable, but don't want something that will break. I'd be expecting 2 years out of a cable and wont let water in if it breaks during a ride.

I would be installing an engine compartment drain.

Considering a 3rd cooling line so I can hook up my stock siphon again.

I want BOB foot holds for the ergonomics of a widest possible tray.

Any advice is appreciated. Currently my plan is BOB adjustable, Tom21 toe / extinguisher, engine drain. Already have turf an 9mm underpad.

The guys from the ski clinic still on the site?

Thanks.

I have been out of the game... but here are my thoughts.

Trim - They always seem to be a maintenance issue, but I think 2 year expectation on the cable is reasonable. Can't offer advice on the latest trim systems.

I think the TOM21 foothold is your only option to keep the fire extinguisher. The SN fire extinguisher is an option, if you can round up the hardware. I went with the PPFFH back in the day and loved it.

I think you are on the right track getting your stock siphon hooked up. IMO, the stock siphon with electric bilge is the best setup for a surf boat.

BOB holds - Never rode with them, but the look nice.

Good luck.

The Rickter foothold kit is the best setup. I've done bob, Krash, and Rickter in a few different skis.

Why do you say that rickter is best? Know that i was planning on bob holds for tray width / ergonomics, and had planned to ride bouys without the foot holds in.

Vumad, in 2002 or 2003 we put footholds in our SJ's and bought an enclosed trailer. We chose to not race that year. The next year we went racing again. With Footholds......... It sucked. when you put your foot to the outside it messed up body position. Could I have gotten use to it? Sure, But by the 3rd race of the season I had an SXR............. Just my 2 rusty pennies. I know your not racing.

If you are on a budget making a set of BOB style footholds is very easy. Check out my "air Square" build thread. I still love those footholds

It's a body mechanics / injury issue. We should have our feet shoulder width apart and instead we have them narrower than our hips. The damage done from riding the superjet is very apparent when I squat in the gym (mechanics). Open to other solutions but I don't intend to keep the superjet with a stock tray, but can't justify buying another hull with the kind of hours I'm putting in these days.

I don't think trim woks the way you think it does. Just use a 62tnozzle, slot the bracket and give it a few degrees of fixed lift.

Thanks. Never ridden a ski with trim. May try in Daytona but I'll probably skip it. I don't want nonsense that's going to break.

I probably wont see the benefits from trim anyway. I'm not intending to flip. The riding style I want to mimic in the surf is @special fx

Anyone do a removable rear surf strap? Anyone put one in and still ride bouys without issues with it?

Preferences on a kicker?

Going to order a Tom21 extinguisher toe and bob holds. Not sure on the kicker or surf strap. I know I'd like a surf strap but not sure it wouldn't get in my way for a lot of riding so thinking about just putting my back foot into the hold.

I feel that they are the best due to their design. They don't flex, come loose, or bend hardware like other brands. The Rickter holds also give you a wide tray. Rickter also has different foothold options available for their kit.

It's all personal preference, but this has been my experience.

Thanks, I'll look into the Rickters again before I purchase. Wasn't sure the extra cost was going to be worth it to me. Honestly I wish I could get a Rickter hull but my riding time doesn't justify the expense.
