Parts storage ideas

How do you store your spare parts? Looking for ideas to maintain a clean and orderly garage. I keep everything in totes right now, which keeps the garage neat, but inside the totes it's a disaster trying to find a specific part. Any ideas?

Cheap 5 drawer bottom toolbox for small stuff, specialty tools, etc. and totes for the bigger stuff.

Hardware is organized in HF portable parts organizers in a purpose built cabinet.

hardware in tackle box trays. I have some small rubber maids for backups that stay in the trailer, Then Large rubber maid for the garage, one with new parts, one with random used parts/build parts.

The unit itself works quite well but I haven't had any results from it to brag about. It came with a 25lb box of wallnut media which doesn't touch anything I have put in it yet. I'll invest in some nice mixed stainless or resin material someday and give it another try.

I picked it up for $25 so I figured I'd give it a try before I spent the money to upgrade my compressor and purchase a media blaster.

We use the Rubbermaid Roughneck 18 gallon totes and they hold up really well. We have about 600 of them full of larger parts, around 12,000 parts, and very few issues. Smaller parts are in wax boxes you can see on the left in this pic of one aisle...

Not quite a garage storage solution but I store parts I take on rides (gaskets, electrical components, handlebars etc) in Pelican cases. I use Sistema brand storage containers to put individual items in and then load them all into the Pelican case. I have found the 1600 case to be a good size being large enough to fit even handlebars.

When I go on a ride all I have to do is grab one case and I have everything thing I need. Case is tough enough to be thrown in the back of a car/truck or in a trailer and everything will be safe.

I would like to try a Lista cabinet, but I can't get over how much they cost. It's the ultimate storage solution with the modularity of the drawers. The drawers hold 440 lbs each so overloading them is almost impossible and the cabinets should last a lifetime. I was hoping to run into some other good ideas here though.

Lista, Stanley, Vidmar. All incredible cabinets but worth their weight in gold.

I have been watching craigslist for close to seven years now and haven't found one I could pull the trigger on yet.

Either too tall or too deep. The 32" of depth just wouldn't work in my current area.

Ideally, 2 separate cabinets, 24" deep, 32" wide and only 38-40" tall would be my wet dream.

I'm not sure if you know about it, but I watch this site. http://www.motorheadextraordinaire.com/2-junk-yard-specials
It's the exclusive distributor of demo units, lightly blemished, customer returns, freight damaged, or canceled orders for Lista. Usually about 50% off from new.

Lista cabinets are the best. We have them on our ships to keep inventory on just about everything. But damn, are they pricey.
