Has everyone else seen that to use PayPal now you need to send a pic of your ID, proof of address and social Security card. I don't really trust sending all the stuff to a random person behind a desk.
Was this guidance from an email or did you type www.paypal.com directly into your browser and that request popped up? Sounds like a phishing email to get your information so they can steal your identity and money.
It's directly from PayPal website. I'll read the link when I get off work. I only need to enter that infoto add money to myacc from my checking account. I was going to call PayPal and ask. Because they would lose so much business if they required that info
That doesn't sound right... I've had some pretty hefty sums of money in my PP account before and I only had to give them a little bit more info to lift my $500 monthly withdrawal limit. Verifiying a SSN number was one option, but I was able to get around it doing something else. I can't remember what.
I've never seen anything remotely close to what you were saying in the first post.
Yes call the number on their website and confirm any suspicious stuff. Type it directly into your browser and don't follow any kind of link. Anyone who wants a copy of your social security card is a big red flag to me. I didn't have to give my mortgage company all of that information and they are giving me money...not the other way around.
Looks like I may have been randomly selected for screening. I had a problem with my debit card a few months ago. I wonder if it's related to that. The two accounts are linked. Maybe I'll make a new account
Best option is to go to your bank and set up a separate account and link that to your PP. Don't keep any money in there incase someone hacks your account they can't get to any more money than what you have in your PP. When you need to do a transfer, use online banking, transfer into that account then into your PP.
There is an instant verification you can do. I did it with one of my accounts and it worked, but tried with another and it did not.
To do the instant verification, it does ask for what bank, password, and security question. I didn't have an issue with one of my dedicated accounts, but if I wouldn't give out all that if it were my main account.
