Pipes.

hows it going guys,

I have found a good price on a Factory B dry pipe for my 1997 SuperJet. I have always though that I would end up with a wet pipe, but based on the price they sell for even used, I am inclined to chase this dry pipe.

My question is, will the dry pipe give me the power the wet pipe would? Will it be difficult t oset up and maintain? I have read that they sometimes lossen themselves off with vibration and will seperate. I am willing to keep up on simple maintenace like that. I dont want to make my otherwise stock boat unreliable though.

I guess what i am asking is is a Factory dry pipe a good investment. Like I said, the price is right and I woul love to add a little more bang to my 701!

Any and all opinions, comments appreciated,

Thanks in advance,

Heebs

B dry pipe?? I think you have your names mixed up. A B-pipe is a wet pipe. Type 4, 8, and 9 are dry pipes. The B-pipe is possibly the best all around pipe for rec, freeride, and freestyle. The dry pipes mostly designed for racing.

the only reason I ask about the dry pipe is because I have limited funds right now ( with school staring again soon) and from what I have read a dry pipe seems like a major step up from stock. A new or used B pipe is not in the cards for me right now.

Basicly what I am asking is will the type 4 dry get me buy until next riding season, when I can search for a wet pipe? ( if not satisfied with the dry)

The dry pipe would be without water injection. only other engine mods will be a girdled head (175) psi.

thanks in advance guys.

They rip pretty good once you get them tuned...a little bit of maintenance, but it will give you wayyy more power than stock.

Type 4 pipes make nice power, but without the water injection you'll need to make it a wet pipe to keep it reliable. Make sure to have all three mounts, or you will run into issues down the road.

For rec riding, you should get a b-pipe. The dry pipes make lots of power, but the wet pipe is very reliable, and make plenty of power on their own.

The B pipe seems to be the general consensus which sucks lol, but I think I kind of knew it would be.

What should I expect to pay for a used b? I have seen them for around $500 or so. If this is the case, It will more than likely be out of the question this year. It will be eather the pipe or my mac book pro (which I need for school). I could probably swing both with the dry pipe.

If all 3 water ports are hooked up, it is tuned properly, and I check all connections for cracks and make sure there tight, what kind of other problems am I going to run into?

Anyone out there rec riding a dry pipe?

They require more maintenance and setup. When you go to bolt it up the bolts and studs for the lord mounts should line up and not have to be forced over, if they are like this, slot the mounting tabs so you do not have to force the lord mounts over. Keep extra orings and couplers handy, they can and will burn up.

Otherwise if you can find one cheap, get it, they make great power.

I don't mind a little work. I just want the most bang for my buck (not a lot of bucks hopefully lol) I assume the couplers are easy enough to come by. I would just buy a couple extra and keep them with my tool kit.!

Type 4 pipes have 1 water port for water injection (electronic), and 3 openings on the chamber for cooling the outer jacket. Setting it up without the water injection system will be a guessing game. The couplers run $20-40 each depending on where you shop. Running too little water into the pipe can burn them, causing them to fail.

Many people run them without water injection and love them, I wouldn't get to worked up over water injection and tuning. Spend the time to set it up and align it correctly and it should be pretty maintenance free for easily the whole season and be a giant improvement over a stock pipe. Buy a section of turbo hose from a diesel/turbo performance shop and you can get a few couplers (depending on how much you buy) for pretty cheap (much cheaper than buying from Factory Pipe).

Good friend of mine ran a type 4 for years in the ocean. He had no issues, and the power delivery was great.

A type 4 pipe is not tunable, hence there is no guess work on setting it up. You do not have to have ECWI to make these pipes work well.
