Plug Reads/Tuning Help

Can someone help me read these plugs? They're freshly installed, and I ran them for about a 20 minutes throughout the throttle range. They came out pretty dry, so I'm not too concerned about what looks like moisture.

I'm trying to tune my single carb, and can't quite get it. It's still hesitant between 1/2 and 3/4 throtttle. Right now I'm at about 1 1/4 turns from closed on the low screw, and about 1 1/2 out from closed on the high speed screw.

Any help would be appreciated!

Up on the main jet, the high adjuster is mainly for full open at WOT tuning. I have the same issue on my stocker.

Thats not what I think most would find ideal, too may cc for a 44 single carb, your leaving power on the table. I'll bet its way lean, thus the hesitation.

use a flashlight or borelight and read the piston wash
big motor for a 44 single, maybe too big

Singles can be harder to tune than dual carbs...I would rather see you use a set of stock 96'-up dual 38's with a filled crossover than mess with a single on a 62T cased engine, singles work much better on the 61X cases.
61X cases have much better volume in the intake runner for a single. I have achieved some pretty good results with the ATP manifold on the 62T cased engines with aftermarket 46's and 48's.

I can vouch for that. Mine hits pretty damn hard after Chuck got done with it.

I might need you to go into more detail on this. What am I looking for?

get a bore light or boroscope. cheap at your local gun shop.
in a dark garage, you can do OK with a AA mag light
pull the plugs and look at the tops of the cylinders
looking for this:

my piston wash tool, fits on a AA maglite

I would try lowering the pop pressure by one spring size lower and try that first. If you are out 1 1/4 on low and need more. Unless you have the fine thread screw oem 44 carb in that case turn it out to at least 2 turns out and try that first. If you are hesitating at those settings on the high screw that is a sign of needing lower pop pressure as well. I dont see any reason to have to go to a 46mm unless you have extra money to spend.

Chuck, what's my best option as far as power, reliability, ease of tuning, and price?
