Possibly Waterlogged Super Jet

I recently picked up a 94 Super Jet. Took it out on the water last weekend and ran good. When I put it back in the garage I noticed it was dripping water from above the driveshaft tunnel (view pics). I didn't think much of it but I came back in the morning to find a big puddle under the cart it sits on in the garage. It has now been dripping for almost a week. It's not heavy yet but I'm thinking it could slowly be getting waterlogged especially if I keep taking it out. I can't find any cracks in the hull where it would be leaking from. I'm hoping it's just coming in from where it's dripping out from. I cut the silicon out from where the drip was coming from in hopes to dry it out quicker. I believe its leaking in from the right side of the insert that the silicone is around. I was going to wait for it to stop dripping and seal it up with 5200. Anyone have a similar problem or ideas to fix this?

Sounds like a good first step. You could try blowing smoke into the hole and see where it comes out to find other possible leaks. You can use a small straw, like what comes with some spray cans. Get some cheap cigars and blow away. When I did this once, I was glad I used flavored (cherry I think) since it can get kind of raunchy for a non smoker

Saw a similar thread recently, but I thought that dirty line on right was the crack or it was a leak at the tube to Hull. Don’t remember

My 1995 Hull was leaking around the exhaust and from what I understand, you can pretty much assume that any squarenose (at this point in time) is waterlogged. Unless its been cut open and fixed that is... They are old and that epoxy they use on the bondline and exhaust tube just start to leak after years of sun and vibration/heat. I think a little bit of 5200 could work but less is more! Seriously though, If you ever want to sell that ski, I would drive up to Michigan to get it... Ive been looking for another 94-95 Yamaha!

Also could water be getting trapped in the midshaft area if the rear seal has pushed out?? Just a thought

Hey guys: We have that drip on my wife's '94 SN SJ when I fill up the engine compartment just over the mid-shaft housing with water. We also have water getting into the engine compartment with the ski in the water but beached. The mid-shaft housing is relatively new. So, I assume that either the engine or the pump drive shaft is not correctly aligned and one or the other shafts is pulling the mid-shaft seal out of round?

Mike75, what happens when you put water in your engine compartment to a level just over your mid-shaft housing?

Haha I just picked this up a few weeks ago, upgraded from a 650sx. I'm planning on keeping it for a while. It's really clean for its age only thing is the graphics are ripped off one side but no big scratches or scuffs anywhere. I was wondering the same thing about the midshaft, I'll check it out. Did you do anything about your leaky exhaust?

I've taken the ski out for three rides now and after every ride (about a full gas tank worth) the engine compartment is almost completely dry, so no water leaking in. I haven't filled it up with a hose yet but I will give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks!

It sounds like our problems are different.
Do you have an electric bilge pump?
If not, you may not want to put water in the engine compartment, unless you have a wet/dry vac.
