Freestyle Power Factor water box quality

I recently received a power factor water box. I'll let you guys be the judges on the quality. Hopefully the damage was in shipping and they had insurance on it, so I can get a partial refund. local shop said 20 to fix the welds and another 60 to blast and power coat it again so hopefully I can get $80 refunded by them. because new it was 245 shipped!!

Right now I can blow air into the box through the welds

I'd send them pictures and tell them to send you a new one. If they want that back, they can include a prepaid return shipping label with the new one.

agreed. Their product, they're reputation. The money required for that part, the last thing you should have to do is fix it on arrival.
That doesn't look like shipping damage, there's no dent or scuffs in the coat.

my $0.02

I would assume the weld in the middle is to hold in the baffle inside the waterbox. All the PFP Waterboxes we have are exactly the same (minus the crack, of course).

Why would you choose to post a thread about this? Wouldn't it be more beneficial to just call Powerfactor or whomever you purchased it through? That is just common sense.

^^^ Why not? If I bought a waterbox for that kinda coin I'd be pretty disappointed if that's how it came. Shows there quality control IMO. Even off a third party, that's not gonna happen normally. Backfire will cause the whole thing to bulge, not just a single weld, especially in the middle on a flat surface if it's not bulged out. Keep us posted as I'm thinking about buying a pfp.

A crack down the center of the bead is usually hot cracking caused by improper welding technique. I cant really tell from the pics but it looks as if they welded the inside baffle plate from the outside of the box. Forces the welder to penetrate deeper which in turn generates more heat (in this case too much). The cracks are usually very small, and thus went unnoticed. The thermal expansion/contraction from the powder coating weakened the areas further, and the jostling during shipping helped them let go completely? Thoughts?

I cant imagine it left their factory looking like that. If it did, booo power factor.

I will get some more pics tomorrow. But yes motoman96 hit the nail on the head. I have already talked with the guys at thrust and they agreed to pay for the welding but not the powder coating. They offered to send me a new one, with a return shipping label also. But I just went with the local guys as an option bc it saves time

to be honest I am kinda of skeptical at this point of the quality/price ratio right now. For 225 I expected a work of art like my WDK 66e manifold is. So I hope my ATS_aaron WDK pipe holds up better than this water box

Working for a large aftermarket parts distributor I can say that creating threads like this is definitely not the way to get the best customer service. While it can equal quick results, most companies are probably not very inclined to do much more than resolve the issue after they have been portrayed in a negative way. Most people have a "protect their own" mentality but often act on it before giving the manufacturer/supplier a chance to make it right. There are a ton of threads like this, not trying to get down on the OP just trying to give some input from the other side.

^^ I agree 100% my first step would have been to contact the company and ask what they are going to about it. Then I would post either the positive or the negative to let everyone know. Those things are hand built. Have you never made one mistake in your life?

So you are saying that it is acceptable for large companies to send out this type of quality?

Large companies should have a guy at the end that inspects the part before putting it in the box!
