Bottom deck is different, built in front sponsons and the pump is moved back (short answer). They do ride totally different, much better at high speed turns and on a buoy course.
For more, detailed information, google is your friend.

I did try to google and didn't really find anything. Just trying to get people's opinions on tge 08 and up skis. Looking at possibly purchasing one

08+ has a different pole (top piece) which uses the same design as the ones off FX1s as well as a different steering cable. This just means it has a shorter throw so you can’t turn as sharply as with a pre 08 setup.

With the setback pump and front sponsons the 08+ seems to be a little “squirrelly” at high speeds but does carve much better than pre 08s. I believe the bottom skegs are shaped different as well.

The 08+ also uses a 62T nozzle and trim ring but is fixed at a slight angle by a bracket.

the post 08's also have deeper chines than the pre 08s which will help it carve better. ive ridden a few post 08s which defintely handled different than the pre 08s. seemed to want to lean more to turn than the older superjets which turn pretty flat. one ski in particular was a 2010 blue one and it was totally stock and had the worst chine walk of any ski ive ever ridden. nothing you could do would make it stop at above 1/4 throttle it would start rocking side to side and would get worse the faster you went.

What does the 08+ need to be a decent surf ski?

essentually the same as a pre 08. tubbies will help, shorter pole, quicker steering, pipe, etc. the newer ski wont slide out as much and will hold an edge better. the stock tubbies on the newer skis dont do a ton. more designed for high speed turns which you dont do a lot of in the surf

08+ for ripping buoys like you're on rails! I was told you can change the ride plate to get a more loose back end for sliding in the surf

The ride plates are the same lengith from Pre to Post. The Post basically uses a SN Ride Plate that use to have 6 holes. You use the front 4 holes. The bottom of the hull is shorter on the Post 08's Hence why the ride plate sticks out so far.

^^exactlly. The reason the OEM rideplate extends past stern is because the pump is set back about 2”.

I ride only freshwater jumping boat wakes and rip around the lake and my 08 fits my riding style perfectly. If that’s what you will be doing definitely test ride one.

I also ride the exact same and cannot stand the 08+ups. I like flat turning.

On smooth water, at low speed, the '08-up is wobbly, chine seeking. No problem in chop or surf. Bottom of hull is wider in front, now the Factory Pipe chamber has ample clearance!

I dig the old hull especially in the surf they are really good for slashing waves. And I still race a 2003 hull recreationally, really can't go wrong if you set them up properly and put in the time
