I bought a head that needs o-rings & studs. $30 for an o-ring set and $4 each for studs at Pro-tec. I'd like to order from McMaster if possible.

instead of using Pro-tec's stud/girdle nut/bolt system, could I use ADA studs with acorn nuts?

Don't have info for you, but I don't like the Protec girdle hardware. Don't like it that the there is a stud, a long nut, then another long bolt. I know people crack the RIVA style hardware, but its seems the easiest to work with.

I noticed the new Shark Fab head uses Riva style girdle hardware, but uses a long bolt instead of a top stud with nut.

I am considering ordering the shark fab, especially since he lowered the price another $20.

I sent a PM to trls63 about his sharkfab girdle system. i just got the head today, so I'll mount it up on a spare case & cylinder so i can measure the lengths and go from there.

I don't care for the nut in the middle either. just another place for something to fail.

order both O rings, from mcmaster carr.

-043, and -153

its ONE of those sizes ( almost all heads are one of those)
and its like $7 for 10 of them or something.

cheap enough to havesome spares, and some spares for buddies.

part numbers shortly..

no girdle hardware available from mcmaster carr as far as I know for ADA or shark fab heads.. I have both heads, ADA studs are too long for shark fab so they might work with your C2 head.

those appear to be the o-rings to seal the domes to the cylinder - what about the 2 smaller ones that seal dome to head and the 2 that seal the head shell to the girdle and the head to the cylinder?

hmm, youll have to look up the ADA and Riva part numbers in the faq for those.

I cant recall them off the top of my head, I can tell you though, they arent viton, they are Buna-N so its like 100 for $3 on them.

same deal, buy a shiat ton of both, you WILL use them for stuff especially if you ride with other people.

right, I thought you had some since you had tried them and they were longer.

girdled is NOT a cheap way to go, but its a good safe way to go, and it wont depreciate much it at all.

Ill check my O ring stock when I get a chance and verify my thoughts on the ada rings, and if ive got some 153 rings Ill send them your way.

I have an girdled ADA head on the shelf for another project - that's how I was able to try one of the girdle bolts and figure out it was too long. ADA gets $75 for the girdle kit and I'd bet $60 of that is the studs - at that price, I'll just get the short studs I need from Pro-tec

I also tried all the ADA o-rings - no luck there either.

so, I guess I'll just order the full o-ring kit from Pro-Tec tomorrow and try to measure them so I can order back-ups from McMaster.
