This is a wooden prototype of a stand that I plan on building, either out of alluminum, or galvanized steel round and square tube. It's air actuated, my scrawny ass is incapable of picking the SJ off the furniture dolly and into the back of my truck- here it is:

That is slick. A lot of thought went into that. I like the small casters that allow the upper piece to glide as it get higher.

Could you add some wheels or casters to the front so that the user doesn't have to do any back-breaking lifting, or would that mess up the stability on elevating?

No matter what, that's very creative.

what does one of those air bags cost?

do you have on board air on your truck?

slick idea for sure.

Ive got some pnuematic cyclinders, and that gives me some ideas.

Thats sweet bro.

Might want to put caster rollers on the front so you can move it around that garage? Not sure how the bracket for that would go since the front rotates about 30*

That's an awesome idea, less work is always a plus
The stand, even with its' narrow width is very stable, even when it's up all the way. I wussed out on lifting the SJ on the stand, if the wood breaks, I do not want to do fiberglass work. I put roughly 250 lbs of sand bags on it without incident.

Bags are cheap. Go to www.suicidedoors.com for a great deal on them. They are one of the best suppliers around for the minitruckin and custom car world.
LOL- thats where this one came from
I used to be into the mini truck seen, many years ago- so thats where most of the idea came from.

i'd say test it with the squarenose. you don't want to scratch up your sandbags. :)
Don't make me go "Waste Land" on you :joke:

To get this thing in metal is my goal before trying a ski on it- If you look at where the bag pivots are in the wood, right now there's only about 3/4" supporting them. Also the mounting "pipes" for the bags need to be made from square tube, that whole physics lesson of standing on a soda can and having your friend flick the side.
I'm trying to find a relatively inexpensive supplier for alluminum tube. Once I get the pieces I'll put my Sea Poo on the stand to ensure that it's adaquate (roughly 580 lbs) I'll even video it for ya Idok :arms:

Great idea, you may even want to put a flow control valve on the discharge or use a Bimba cylinder instead of the air bag. Here is a site you can use to get all the pneumatic items you may need. WWW.jhf.com I use them all the time.
