I had the pump out of my machine in order to replace my steering cable. This isn't the first time I have pulled a pump out, and everything came apart fairly simply and went back together easily. On my first ride I ran into an issue:
Once I get on plane my machine runs strong, accelerates fine and reaches top speed. The issue is at low speeds trying to get onto plane. So if I am doing a tail stand or trying to recover off of hitting a wake. The engine sounds as though it is revving up but the machine wont accelerate out of this position, I've had to lean it over to 'turn my way' out of being stuck.
- My plugs look good, no issues in colour
- I pulled my carbs off before this ride but didn't adjust them since last time it was running properly
- It feels like the machine is cavatating, as though the drive shaft is slipping.
I pulled the pump and the splines on the drive shaft are all in tact, and I can verify that there was no metal particles that would lead me to believe that the female end was wearing.
I also noticed when I pulled the pump again that the factory cooling line tap no longer has the circular insert in the end and is therefore not working(trying to add a picture). This is the factory cooling tap that faces forward, essentially the water now just gets blasted through at a 90. My pump is tapped for dual cooling on my 701 with B-pipe. Has anyone had this happen and what have you done to fix it.
Any thoughts on why I could be running into this lack of acceleration issue even though it sounds like the motor is revving up? Could this be caused by excess heat from only the single cooling line operating?
Thank you for any input, it is greatly appreciated. Links to other threads about this are appreciated as well.
