Pump shoe blues

I have broken the pump shoe out of every ski I have owned at least twice so I am not new to the subject. Has anyone used the Blowsion aluminum pump shoe? I got mine today. Fast shipping and product looks good when you hold it in your hand. Here comes the but... The intake grate does not fit. The holes in the hull do not match up. And the holes that bolt done the rear of the intake grate are not tapped. Here is a pic after ten minutes of grinding. I finally decided to make the post when I saw the holes were not tapped. Am I doing something wrong? Or was mine made on a Friday? Let me know your experience or if you are planning on buying one there is a little modification you need to do if mine is correct.

it's the jet dynamics pump shoe marketed under blowsion. I have installed a few some times they come tapped and sometimes they dont, I usually just grind the grate to make it fit and you have to grind alittle on the pump shoe where it goes into the hull to make sure it fits tight against the hull. Before you glue it make sure it sits square use the wear ring and check the gap all thr around without the seal.

the blowsion shoe is made by jet dynamics
my 1st jd shoe didnt have any of the holes drilled or tapped the intake grate also didnt fit
i did buy another one for my next ski build
we took the oem shoe out last night with 1 strike of a hammer
it came out in 1 intact piece
the new "blowsion" intake went in but the 4 screw holes are in the wrong location on mine as well
i havent got to the grate yet so i dont know if that fits or not.

It gets worse. I went out to epoxy the old holes in the hull and my tools were in a puddle of water. I just refoamed at the beginning of this season. I think I am going to cry. I tapped the holes and grinded the shoe to fit. No big deal. This is just info for someone that is going to buy one in the future if this is how they all come. You need a 6 mm tap, you'll have to epoxy your old holes and drill new ones, and you'll have to grind the outside of the shoe to fit in the hull and then inside to fit your intake grate. It doesn't take long if you have the right tools.

So, is there a better option than the jd/blowison offering? This seems like quite a headache for such a simple part. I need to line one of these up for my blaster this off season and I really didn't want to go with a stocker...

I just put one in a month or so ago. I bought it straight from jet dynamics. The 4 holes to mount it to the hull lined up perfectly. I did need to buy longer hardware since the aluminum shoe was a bit thicker than the plastic stocker. The grate mounting holes were tapped too. I did have to break out the dremel and take some material of the Worx 201 to get it fit in the shoe though. I'll never have to replace it again though, so I'm happy about that. Plus the broken stocker only took about 5 minutes tops to remove. Mine came out in two pieces. I had heard some real horror stories about how nasty it was to remove them, but mine was no biggee. New chisel, hammer, dremel to clean up the left over epoxy..done.

I've heard it go both ways. I think mine was just made on a Friday. It says "minor grinding required" not, "tap your own holes, grind it to fit your hull and intake, and you will have to fill in your old holes and drill new ones to mount it". No big deal. It will definitely be better than stock. I just want other purchasers to know what they may have to do. Like I said before it is no big deal if you have the tools. I'm going out ion the garage to fix it now.

I have had one
I took it back and got a new stocker and welded the intake grate and ride plate together

The jetdynamics is crap
if you look where the back of the intake grate sits then you will see they mill them to low
You will not notice it until it smahes your intake grate out because its not lvl amongst the bolts and causes stress on them
this problem is even worse when you use a intake grate with built in wings to lower your intake
It ends up with an airgap under there that sucks in air, and because it isnt pulled up tight it puts alot of stress on the bolts which break and your expensive intake grate goes missing

I'm with wax on this one....I've installed a couple, but was never happy with them. Apart from the fact that they last forever, there are no advantages whatsoever.

Stockers are the best option as far as fit and finish goes. I know billet pump shoes would most likely be expensive, but thats probably the only way to get a metal one to work. The other option is to overcast the part and mill it down.

I'd never use a JD one again thats for sure.....I'm a little fussy though.
