I see a few members charging Paypal fees and others not. I am trying to sell one of my skis and need to know what fees I will incurr.

I do not have a premier business account and the payment is Paypal to Paypal. The site says that there are no fees involved for this type of transaction, can I trust this?

Keep in mind that Paypal or the buyer can screw you over in a hurry.
If you do not provide a tracking number that is online trackable in damn near real time, the buyer can claim he never got the goods and you're out of luck.
I wouldn't use Paypal for a transaction like that.

Personally, I prefer cash anytime it's over $250. I am also not comfortable with receiving payment, waiting for it to clear 100% and then shipping the item. If anything goes wrong in transit, I look like the asshole that didn't ship it and tried to screw someone.

I have a camera and plan to use it. I will have a picture of the crate in front of the shipping carrier with the manager in it.

What other payment methods are still acceptable? Western Union can be frauded, money orders can be frauded, what's left?

This will not help you one bit if there's a Paypal dispute and you don't have a tracking number (that meets the requirements) to show.

You will not be charged a fee if you are making the payment. The account receiving the payment is charged approx. 3%.

if its something of real value and hard to replace.. always use a tracking #. always always always....

Go to the Neg feedback thread here and read some results of non trackable shipping woe's

If you sell something as NEW.. make sure its new.. not slightly used.. even if it has been bolted on an never used.. some people call that used.

How are you going to get the manager to get in the crate?

That's actually part of the tracking/insurance package I bought, the manager rides with the ski and actually calls in the location every 1/2 hr. You can never be too sure ya know.

You will have to eat the PayPal fees if they pay with a credit card or bank/debit card. If they pay from their bank account or PayPal account, then there will be no fees.

Just tell them to upload the money into their PayPal account however they wish. Then once they have the money in their PayPal account, PayPal it over to you.

I suggest you open a separate bank account only for the PayPal account/transaction. Don't link you everyday bank account with all of your checking/savings money to your PayPal account. If you trust them and then days/weeks later they file a claim, PayPal can yank the funds from you PayPal account/credit card on file/or bank account. I have never had it hapen to me but I believe it did happen to Yamasaki on here once when he sold a ski.

Read up and make your best decision.

First off, the tracking number/insurance is a no brainer on any large item. Second, once I drop it off and get a tracking number, is it not in the hands of the carrier and therefore under their responsibility and liability? I may have to give buddy back his money and then go after the carrier for the cost but that is my responsibility not the buyers.

Having said that, I am in that exact dispute with fedex right now and I haven't seen a penny back or got a call back in almost 6 months. They say that they dropped it off, and they very well may have, but it was not there when I got home. So make sure you get a signature as well.

Anyway, how far are you shipping it??

Just far enough to be about the same as driving.

I've never NOT had paypal take out their 3% on payments I've received.

You have a Premire Account then. Once you click accept to upgrade to the premire account, they hit you with the fees from there on out. It is a scam if you ask me!

They should only charge you a fee when they incure a fee in my opinion. Not tax you on every transaction from there on out.

With my paypal acct. I am charged when I accept more then 500.00 in one month

You have a regular account. They make you upgrade to premire when you get more than 500 a month. They hold your money as hostage until you upgrade. Then next thing you know they slam you with fees from then on out.

I gave up years ago trying to work around their fees and upgraded and that was that. Last run of stuff I sold on eBay saw a siginificant hit in my profit because of eBay and PayPal.
