I did a few changes and upgrades to my SQ over the winter. I finished it up yesterday just in time for the Daytona ride. I'm pretty pleased with the out come and with all the M&M Werx mods I made.
First I smoothed out every cast line and sharp edge from my entire engine and bed plates. This engine is as smooth and slick as it gets. Then blasted the outside of my entire motor and bedplates and TEFLON coated them. This is much more durable than paint and powder coating. The finish has pretty much the same texture as a skillet. Even the Stator mounting area was coated, but not the mounts themselves.
Motor was freshened up with a new crank.
I tore my starter apart and cleaned it. Including blasting, priming and painting everything.
Rebuilt my mid shaft with new seals, bearings and a shaft.
Also a new coupler and biscuit.
The "C" clip kept coming off my carb so I cut a Teflon washer and added a locking collar.
I ceramic coated my pipe and header.
Then I went though my entire wiring and put adhesive lined heat shrink over the connections, then covered all the wires with sheathing and heat shrunk the ends with adhesive lined heat shrink. I even color coated the wires.
Then I made and new Fuel Cell. After much discussion here on the board I went with a external fill with the option later of installing a internal if needed.
This cell will give me the advantage to get keep an eye on my water box, easy access to all the clamps up front and wiring going up to the pole. Also it weighed in at just under 5 LBS empty and holds a tad over 3 gallons of fuel. I incorporated a sight tube to let me know the amount of fuel in the cell. This largest advatage is.. It was cheap to make.
I turfed the bottom with 1 and 1/2 later of Hydro Turf.
Then I wanted a better looking battery tray. So I made not one but TWO!!!. One for my ski and one to sell.
This tray fits the Jet Works battery perfect. Its sits on a layer of natural rubber and a layer of Hydro turf and is surrounded by Hydro turf when finished.
I went ahead and pop riveted the tabs on the tray due to deadline time, and can weld them on after the Daytona ride.
I even went as far and sealed off the top of my bed plate bolts so water wont get in the threads, sealed around each of the girdle bolts with silicone where they go in the cases. (this is a known corrosion area)
Here is the finished results.
Huge thanks to Moondance for all the parts, beer and food runs!! Couldn't of completed it in time without her!:woot:
