rear side exhaust or maybe a pump dump exhast

i noticed this was covered a little in darren's build thread but i was kinda lookin for mor info. first off i am in the middle of a defoam project and was thinking it would look nice and eliminate the black goo from getting on your pants when you are behind your ski. i was thinking maybe 4 inches or so from the back out the side. or what about the pump dump exhaust like sitdowns have?

If you want to do tail stands, better stay away from pump dump exhaust. I have a side rear like you're describing on my new hull and it works fine.

However, I have to question your tuning or gas mixture if you're getting black goo on your pants while riding. I've ridden two ski's before this for about 3 seasons and the only time I stained my shorts from the rear exhaust was when the tuning was all jacked up and I had an air leak.

its not so much the black goo as it is the acumulation of the black that is around the exhaust. i used to get a bit of black goo in the past with my dry pipe but the tuning was good. now i have a b-pipe and different carbs.

Wouldn't pump dump exhaust cause cavitation??...your basically stuffing air into your pump area...I still like the straight up rear exhaust. It is always under water and keeps the exhaust away from your ski.

Not sure if different is always good.....I don't like my pump dump scupper either. Can't get to it...If I could move it to the back, I would.

This is what I did but only because I'm running dual scuppers. Otherwise, I would've left it in the back. This picture was taken before putting it in the water. The hull is nasty at the outlet already.

If you're more worried about the accumulation, you can cut the flange off the exhaust pipe and push the tube back about an inch. This prevents the exhaust from leaking onto the hull. I was actually taking a picture of the fiberglass damage but as you can see from the second picture, the hull is barely even soiled after an entire season (March to December).

Side rear exhaust does help wih tail stands and taking off after a trick. It is loud and doeas leave residue on the side of the hull, just paint the hull black below the rail and your all set. Pump area exhaust would be somewhat louder as well and would create cavitation in a tail stand only. It also makes a hella mess in the pump rideplate area and tends to let smoke seap into the tray area even worse than rear exhaust when tooling around at low speed (no wake areas).
Would sound good though.
