Since I am working on an old ski that has been ridden in salt for many years, I have bolts snapping off left and right.
A few questions....
(0) A bolt like the one shown in the picture... would you expect better luck with penetrating oil or the torch.
(1) I thought that from now on I would use a thorough dose of Loctite on all bolts that come in contact with water, not so the bolts don't fall out, but to prevent corrosion. Would this help?
(2) When one of these rusted old bolts does come out, the nut that it goes into (embedded in the hull) must be in equally terrible shape. Is there anything that should be done to it before putting a new bolt back in? Wire brush? Run a tap (die??) through it?
