Super Jet Removing solas impeller help!

Anyone have any tips on removing a stubborn impeller?

Its a solas J prop on a yamaha 144 pump.

I have already broke a vise and almost broke the solas tool. I have tried heat, soaked it in pb blaster for days, Im using a crescent wrench with a 4ft breaker bar.

Im tightening the spine tool in the vise as hard as I can until the vise handle bends. Then putting lots of force on the breaker bar and the spine tool pops out of the vise after so much force. (alot of force)

Anyone have any ideas, and yes Im turning it the right way!

Only thing I can think of is buying a new solas tool and a better vise.

Sounds like you aren't turning it the right way, they're reverse threads, you should be turning it clockwise to loosen it!

you have to bounce it !!!! that's how my buddy does it every time.

I've had to jump on my cheater bar before and even better than that, I've had to have one cut off at a metal shop. Don't give up. Heavy vice, closed end 7/8" box wrench, cheater bar, torch for the prop and lots of clockwise torque. Bouncing is a good tip too.

Are you replacing it.. if so just cut it off. Or get a bigger vice but from the description doesnt sound like it wants to come off nicely

try heating it up and spraying into the thread area with an inverted aerosol can, Erik mentioned this to me when I was trying to get a screw unstuck. One of those keyboard cleaners spayed upside down would work, it should drop the temperature of the shaft significantly.

Thanks for all the advise, i spent another hour trying, no luck! I would like to keep the driveshaft and impeller, both are in great shape, the pump bearings just went out.

Well now the solas tool will not stay in the impeller when force is applied, always slips out, I guess I will buy another solas tool and a new vise!

I hate it when a simple job turns into a nightmare! I removing three other impellers last night, all of them came off easy!

I have had to put a vice grip on the shaft behind the tool to keep it from poping out when force is applied.

Well I used Marks idea and repositioned the vise, ending up shearing all four prongs off the solas tool! I think this impeller and driveshaft are going to be together forever! Im done f#cking with it!

Anyone want to buy a nice solas J prop, superjet driveshaft and stator section with noisy bearings for cheap?
