Repainting a superjet?

say i have a superjet thats been repainted before and i wanna go ahead (and cheaply) paint it again, what are some useful steps for doing the project well at home?

anybody have any guidelines on how to prep the surface, then what specific paints to use, how man coats, clear coat, etc?

any info would be helpful

The last time I had to prep an already painted ski for new paint I used the low odor Aircraft paint remover that I bought from Lowes. It could affect plastics like it says on the label so I was very careful to only let it set long enough to bubble up the old paint. Only do one section at a time. I did it outside and used the hose to rinse each section thoroughly before moving on. I had no problems and it worked great.

I then hand sanded most of the remaining spots with 180 and finished up with 220 to get it primer ready. You will have to fill any, gouges or cracks with epoxy resin and a fairing filler. Polyester based products may not adhere properly to the SMC portion of the hull. Any reinforcing or big repairs will need to be done with fiberglass and epoxy resin. Good luck.

When I did my X2, the surface was already decent so I did not fill any holes or scratches. All I did was take all stickers and glue off, then wetsanded the entire hull. Washed it real good and masked the parts I did not want to paint. I then sprayed 4 light coats of the chosen paint. I waited a few weeks to make sure the paint was totally dry since I used a latex base paint. Then I spray a oil based sealer on top. (2 coats of sealer).
Its been on the ski for 1 year now with no problems. The normal nicks and scratches from rocks and docks are touched up has I go through the season.

Enjoy
