I am thinking about pulling off the purple trim around the ski and replacing it with Hydroturf. How hard is it and what is the best way to go about it?
Don't do it stock bumpers are the best IMO and don't require repair. If you need turf for hood tricks just put a short pc on top of the bond line near the hood.
Yeah I was thinking that it may not be worth the trouble. I will not be doing any tricks for a while. I just wish someone made replacements in different colors... or do they?
The stock plastic is best because it wraps around the underside of the bond line and protects your fingers when you need to lift the ski by the rails. The underside of the bond line rails is sharp and feel like a knife cutting into your fingers while lifting. Hydro turf and Watcons universal trim look nice but theres no protection for your fingers when your lifting the ski if that even matters to you. A long shot option is that several years ago there USED to be a company called "Jet Armor" that made different color plastic trim for Kawi 750's but they haven't been around for so long I doubt you'll be able to find any. The cheapest option is to get some vinyl paint from an Auto parts store and remove and repaint the stock trim. Down side will be that every scratch will show the original purple color under the paint.
Rattle can the stock stuff Do not Turf the rails. My opinion. Alot will say turf the rails it looks cool. Just wait until that stuff starts to fail. Maintenance on a motor one thing on the turfed rails another
Personally I like the turfed rails and have done several with out issue, it's longevity comes down to how well you prep the surface. Also I think the SX/SXI hull handles better with out the big clunky stock rails, just my opinion.
ive had my rails turfed sense 2007 and have only had to touch them up once or twice with some superglue...i literally have hundreds and hundreds of hours on my hull and they look almost as good as the day i did them....if you cant get them to hold up you dont know how to turf....
