Alright sweet. Thanks for the advice! This should get me by for now though. But eventually I will be getting a new/better coil. I think I've searched on here and you said that Kawi SXR coils are decent too. I'll probably either go that route or get a JSS one.Copper core/stranded wire should be fine. Do not get wound resistor wire (sold most often by automotive stores).
I understand you are on a budget, but realize that a questionable repair will ultimately cost you time and money.
Kawi SXR coils are identical to SJ coils except for the wire and the price. Much cheaper. They come without boots or terminals, so buy some of those, too. I've always preferred MSD terminals, plug boots, and plug boot retainers. The wire insulation is pretty vulnerable, though.
I think the best option is the JSS rebuilt coil that JetManiac sells. If and when you have the money
A coil is one of those parts that is nice to have a spare of in your tool box. Bendix and starter are a couple others.
