Other reseating/replacing trailer tire

Edited: I removed the video and hope that I haven't given anyone dangerous ideas. A couple of knowledgeable gentlemen have explained some things to me (see posts below) so I removed the video. Sorry to waste everyone's time but more importantly, don't want to endanger anyone!

I still will use a tiedown strap around an unseated tire to help seat it but very valid point using a locking chuck when inflating so you can be AWAY from the tire when it seats.

And based on information below, I'll use real tire levers (rounded spoon like tools not tire irons or pry bars with square or sharp points) to R and R tires on the rim.

PLEASE DON'T DO THIS!!! What is demonstrated in this video is extremely dangerous and many people have blown up tires in their face doing just what he did.

1. Never use tools with a square shaft to install a tire. The sharp edges on the tool will kink the steel bead cables. This can cause the tire to blow up in your face while seating.
2. Never use screw drivers, pry bars ect to install a tire. the sharp tips on the end of the tool will cut the bead rubber. This can cause the tire to blow up in your face while seating.
3. Always us a clip on chuck and remote inflator when seating a tire.
4. NEVER LEAN OVER A TIRE WHEN SEATING A BEAD!!!!!!

I'm so cheap, I will rubb a hole in a nickel, but when it comes to my tires...I will pay a professional to mount them right. No offense, I love all your other videos, very educational. This is a bit extreme, just my opinion. Keep the videos coming....

On a second thouht, If I was far far away from a tire shop, I would do it in a pinch. But just to get to the pros....

I've done the ratchet-strap thing on pressure washers and hand trucks...

However, I found it very hard to find an 8" tire (without rim).

It's really not worth the energy. $23.00 got me a new tire on a galvanized rim. How much less could a tire alone have been?
Safety is great.
Your time is as good or better.

Work smart. Not hard. lol.

Some shops won't even work on stuff this small.

This is an x-ray of an ATV tire we inspected the blewup in a guy face and killed him. It had bead anomalies and failed to seat properly causing the bead cables to break. the bead popped off the rim and the assembly jumped up and hit him in the head.

If you don't have the correct tools and have not been trained don't mess with this stuff it can be deadly!

My first thought was to just delete this thread but then it occurred to me that it's probably better to let my undereducated derrière hang in the breeze so maybe some else can learn from my screw up and avoid potential hazardous situation. Thanks again Old Skool Professor

This makes me feel lucky. We used to use a low boy trailer had centerless wheels and put at least a dozen sets of tires on it with prybars and used a ratchet strap to set them. This was probably 10 years ago so I didn't have proper tools and don't quite remember, but I think we did it because the local tire shops couldn't do that style of wheel.

Have yall ever seen this thing, It's my new favorite way to seat a bead.

(sort of spoon shaped tire levers are about $7 ea)

(enables you to avoid #4 and only a couple bucks at discount stores)
