Surfriding rickter hulls..do these hold up in in surf? fr vs fs? new layup vs old Taiwan?

puttin this out there for any of the guys that paid at least close to full price for one of these,I have seen some bad damage to some of these but never heard much about it here,Does the the fr layup hold up much better than the fs layup,Are the new models made in "EDIT" the new factory location doing any better than the prev models done in Taiwan?

Rickter 008.jpgI have seen a bunch with the gelcoat just letting go, but it may not be structural just cosmetic.

I bought a new xfr and just ride it in flatwater. i have scratches on the bottom and that's it (normal scratches from bunks). i bought mine when they were moving to there new factory in thailand. apperently thrust says every shipment looks better. I bought mine at the end of last year and am very happy with it. quality is great and its been pancaked 156 times ,.....appx lol

Any hull will come apart if it's flogged enough. There's plenty of abuse to go around, especially in the surf.
Rickter's look great, ride great, fit and finish is great, and longevity seems to have much improved from the early days.
Only thing I don't like is weight and price.

I dont think their gelcoated, think its just paint, stickers, then clear coat. Thats why they chip soooo easy. Heres a pic of the bottom of mine after three months of riding, lol.

I seem to remember Jake Brights hood coming apart at surf slam this year, not quite sure about the story behind it though.

my brothers hood was a 3 pound 2 year old carbon kevlar hood that was cracked to begin with. it was TCs hood he retired and when jake lost his hood (wammer bungies work soooo gooood) TC hooked him up with it so he could compete. it just delammed, its fixed now.

i had one of the first rickters in the US. the quality between mine and my brothers (his is around 6 months old) is night and day. they really are stepping the quality up. i was deff impressed.

Mine is an FR2 from early 2010. Gel coat is flaking off. It is worse after every ride. I have been given the idea to high press washer it and then soda blast it, and then repaint. But I don't really care what it looks like, its fun to ride. I circled the problem areas in red, but it is hard to see.

My buddy just got his 2012 XFS and i am blown away by the fit finish. One thing i did notice is the paint/gel-coat/w.e it is scratches fairly easy, but i would take that any day over a a/m ski that you have to use body filler to hide all the pin holes and then paint it.

The XFRs are indestructible. The fit and finish are top notch. My buddy Randy must have sand darted about 50 times and only has one gel coat stress crack. I must have flat landed a dozen times from 20-30 without any damage. The new hulls are epoxy resin, a lot stronger then the previous lay up. These hull are so strong that I'm considering getting a XFS next time to same a out 10lbs.
