Fred will always be a legend in our community. RIP my brother. Feel free to post your memories. My favorite is him always having a bar in his truck and never taking no for an answer. That man forgot more about skis and especially ignitions than most of us will ever know. He will be missed.

2014 Daytona Freeride. Met Fred at Lake Diaz. We were talking, he said walk with me to my Car, He popped the trunk, and said "here, let me make you a drink" like Shane said, "No was not a word he was going to hear". He mixed up some concoction that I swear could be used as Rocket Fuel. One 12 oz cup would send a rocket from Cape Canaveral to the Moon and Back........ With enough left to power an XS1400 for a good 10 minutes session or until your arms turned to jelly...

RIP Fred. He truly has forgotten more than we can ever learn.........

I've never met him but chatted with him lots on here and always had a solid respect for the man. He sold me an Advent ignition that was a dud, he gave a full refund and said keep it in case I need something from it like connectors etc. This news is very surprising to me, I'm definitely going to miss his posts and kindness. He didn't have to offer up any of his knowledge but he did anyway, the guys like him on here deserve our respect...not a good day to be reading this :(

Was saddened when I heard this news earlier today. Met Fred forever ago. He was always at all the Daytona Freerides, and many times at the Spot when I was there. Had some Awesome Tech talks. Most builders dont talk openly. That was not the case when Fred and I had our chats. Learned a lot form him. He had a way of looking at things that just made sence. Like BK said, he always had the goods to keep you warm and fuzzy Too! Lol!
Fred was a True Gentlemen! Happy to call him a Friend! Rest Easy Buddy! Keep those 2-strokes rippin up there!

wow! I was shocked when I heard news this morning. Fred had been around jet skis longer than any us . He was a staple at all of t he freerides. Always looked forward to talking wtih him.

Looked for him this fall and didn't see him, was wondering what kept him away.

I first met him at Blue's house in 2014. He made me a drink and then barked at me when I tried to help him load his ski. He took great pride in being able to do it himself. This year I spent about 2hrs hanging out with him at lake diaz flatwater Friday. We talked about programmable ignitions and how he preferred to keep his mind sharp by tinkering with jetskis rather than do stupid crossword puzzles. He told me how he got started riding in Virginia beach when 440's first came out. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time he said. I told him I was from southwest Virginia and his eyes lit up. He said he knew he had heard my accent before and says I have a joke for you. He proceeded to tell me hillbilly jokes for no less than 30min. Not just regular hillbilly jokes but Appalachian coalfield specific hillbilly jokes. I'd heard most of them before but hearing him tell them with such enthusiasm made it very entertaining. Before I left he told me I looked hungry and asked if I wanted a snack. He held out a bag of keto bars and said they were healthy but tasted pretty good. I said sure and grabbed one. He said take more than that, opened my truck door and dumped half the bag in my center console. What a guy. He will be missed.

I first met Old Man Fred in 1989 in the surf at Croatan in Va Bch. He never changed and I'm now his age when I met him. Fred and his bar in the truck, and all the setups he had such as his battery charge station that he had set up so well. Fred was always happy and excited when I got to see him. He lived a life that made him happy, as jet-skiing should. Simply, Fred lived as many dream. I don't know about his money but he always seemed happy. He lived a successful life.

Damn thats crap news. I have spoken on here with him before. I never met him. i didn't know how old he was or wasn't. My love to his family and friends in grief

We met for the first time at the Spot.Told me as he did Jon,he didn’t need my help.:) Then proceeded to tell me that if he came off his ski in the surf,not to help him! He would ride it back to the shore and get back on it there.And of course,making you a drink.Got a buzz at 9am at daytona a bunch of years back when he made that concoction.

Does anyone know how old he was or what he did for a living in his working years?

If I remember correctly he told me he worked on heavy equipment. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Allison Edwards was close to him in recent years. From her FB post, she is considering a Memorial ride in Fred's honor.
I think this is a Fantastic Idea! Hope it happens! I would encourage anyone that is able to attend, to do so.
