RN hull

Hey guys, I'm about to start hacking up my beloved '04 701 to throw on footwells/hydroturf and a new impeller. I see a lot of you guys cutting off a few inches at the back of the hull. What are the benefits to this? How long realisitically will it take and is it worth doing? Ski season is looming and I've only got about a month to get ready.

I have owned 2 skis with a 3" Cutback (Meaning top deck is full length, and bottom deck is tapered to -3") and I love them. To me, it makes the ass end leave the water that much easier, and slide like a dream. However, I have bought both hulls that way. Not something I would try to hash out unless I had a lot of free time on my hands so close to the season. That in mind you in a catch 22. Your better to do it all at once, or wait till next year. Otherwise your wasting glass and turf if you were to do footholds one year, and cutback the next.

Welcome to the X

Mike

Cool thanks, I've been reading the forums for ages. More slide can only be a good thing :D I'll see how I feel when I'm cutting the footholds, it's quite daunting as we don't exactly have a thriving jetski scene here. ( Just two of us) so cutting bits off the back of the ski is kinda uncharted territory :p

My experiances -2 is the magic number. Cut the back off. Then cut to lengh. The glue/glass the pieces you cut off back on. Very clean way to do it.
Do not cut the bond line off at all. If you cut any part of the bond line it will throw off the handling a lot!

GOOD LUCK!!!

If you have the time and resources do it...superjets are fun because they get loose. I have a stock length SN and considering cutting her down a few inches as well...my buddy just took 5 inches off his...as well as a nose job and it is a totally different ski!

I have a RN I need to finish. It's -5 and tapers to a -7. And a nose job. I've been thinking about pulling it back out here recently. Just curious to see hiw agile it is over stock. I'm also shortening the top deck and moving the holds forward.

If it's just sittin...give it to me! I'll let ya know how it rides! Haha! It's been pretty warm here recently so no time to chop up a hull this season. I may be in the market for a RN to hack into unless I get into an AM hull. I feel bad thinking about cutting into my SN since it was just built a couple years ago.

Well, my mate just told me he has his engine taken out and with the weather over here we're not likely to get into the water before April. So I'm going for it.
Sure what's the worst that can happen
