I have the tiny tach and so far it has been disappointing. After calling them they told me that the spark is too strong on my wb1 (msd enhancer) and the tiny tach cant handle it... If you decide to go with tiny tach call them direct and tell them if you have a "strong" spark so they can add insulation to it. On a positive note it worked great on the js550.

Looks like, I opened a can of worms that has been disscused before. If you want a good tach, you got to spend some $$$. I was hoping for something around $50, but that's not going to happen. I might try one of the local guys, and see if I can you use one of theirs. Thanks for all your help.

You're not tuning a rocket ship. A 50$ tach should be fine to get you where you need to be. Now if you where going to be building and tuning engines professionally it would be a different story.

I bought one of these from the manufacturer- see link below- 4 years ago. This "commercial" model updates every second, has been very satisfactory. http://tinytach.com/commercial.php

I believe the pet refreshes 20 times per second, that is what makes it a better tach for tuning, the tiny tach refreshes twice per second and is fine for monitoring rpm but is not readable accurately enough for tuning. Like others have said, you gotta drop some coin to do it right.

I usually put my ski against a pier, post or bulkhead and check for top rpm to adjust my carbs, I don't really need a high refresh rate for that. Accuracy of + - 50 rpm is good enough for me. Maybe I'm too frugal?

Yeah, that's my plan. Lock the ski down, adjust the carbs, Flow control valve, temp on the engine, temp on the pipe. This might take a few days, as our water temps go up and down. Then, when that's all good, off to tuning the pump.
