Does anyone know where to get the carbon tubes I've seen on some RRP poles?
Don't think Rick Roy does them?

yeah! the two aluminum tubes is not the reason for the weight of the pole and would not make any $$ sense to make them in carbon. No one said the thrust tubes were actual carbon, they're anodized. Carbon fiber tubes wouldnt be strong enough anyways, and if someone made a set that we're, they'd be heavier then the aluminum tubes.
LOL...carbon fiber has a higher strength to weight ratio. That's why racing sailboats have carbon fiber masts and not aluminum. RRP made the pole out of aluminum because it was cheaper so they can make a profit. Not because they would be heavier than aluminum. No one said the thrust tubes were actual carbon, they're anodized. Thrusts pole tubes looks nice, holding an aluminum tube I doubt its worth the money to find someone to build you carbon tubes. Whatever floats your boat. would be cool! If your set on the actual carbon look, Derricks wrap looks like the real mcCoy. But idk of anyone who makes carbon tubes already
LOL. You thought graphite was weaker than aluminum? Carbon fiber is far stronger than aluminum and is much lighter weight as lilracer94 said. It's a tensile strength of 500ksi for carbon fiber versus 65ksi for aluminum. So in essence, you could have a RRP style pole that could be over 7.5x lighter weight wise, but have the same strength. Course, you have the cost issue unless your laying it up yourself.
Tensile strength is not the issue, and is essentially irrelevant for handlepole tubes. The increased stiffness and lack of plasticity of carbon are a big deal however. Add in the increased fracture risk around stress concentrators, and somebody is going to end up getting impaled...
Here's a relevant study...and even in this study they are comparing CF reinforced polymer tubes, not pure CF:

I can probably supply these Jim, however although carbon will always be stronger than aluminium for a given wall thickness it may be worth considering that in the event of a failure (and everything will at some point) aluminium is likely to bend and buckle but carbon more likely to shatter particularly on impact and leave nasty sharp bits to impale yourself on. All in all I don't think its worth the small amount you will save in weight but it would look cool.
