the breathers are not for heat they direct water intrusion down to the bottom of the hull so that you don't get a bunch of water in your carbs/engine. I made the mistake of cutting them as well and using frogskinz which do not work very well to keep the water out. You really need these breathers in the surf.

I have a rrp pole set up with the breather tubes going through the hull but that's it. Do I need something else?

Single carb 61x with Ada head and b pipe. Sounds like I should be ok?

Start it on your trailer and give it 1/2 throttle and see if the hood is vacuumed on. Those breathers provide quite a bit of resistance to flow so you may not have enough.

Two breather tubes in the pole is enough. I had a SN SJ with the hood glassed shut and run of those 2 breather tubes for years. Your good.
