shipping a motor to Russia?-SELLER BEWARE

so I had a for sale thread in parts for this 760 waveraider. well I deleted the thread because it was actually a 760GP. and the motor had a blown piston(ring failure) . anyway I keep getting a PM from a minin22 on here. he wants to buy the engine. of course Itold him about the engine condition. i didn't think he would paypal me but he did. Thing is, he's in Russia and his English sucks. He keeps referring to the engine as "him". Anyway he says he is sending me prepaid shipping labels. I kinda don't want him to have my address. is this weird?

Minin22, if you're reading this, don't be offended. Ivejust never shipped anything to Russia before and you were very hard to understand in English. Must be alert to avoid the scams nowadays. I'm sure you understand.

Exactly how will he scam you with just your name and address?
name, address and email. you never know. im not a scam expert. im sure other people have been scammed with less. maybe im wrong. i hope i am. just wanted the x to know whats up and if anyone has been contacted by a minin22, id like to speak with you.

I think my only concern would be that paypal almost ALWAYS sides with the buyer so if the guy isnt legit then he could probably file a dispute, keep your motor, and get a refund. I would want to have the shipping labels paid for by me so I had records of shipment of the item. The address thing probably wouldnt be my concern. That is unless you have been posting a lot of anti russia propaganda and the buyer is secretly Putin :) . then he is probably going to send some russian operatives to kill you.

Pay for the shipping label, send the motor, and deal with any attempt to fraud you later on. How much money are we talkin?

i sold him a long block, and complete electronics(clean ebox too!!) couplers, arrestors, bedplates, etc for $350. but shipping will probably be twice that to Russia. I think i'll send him a message regarding my concern and see how he responds. you guys should read our correspondence through PM's on here....Just seems fishy! but he's already paypal ed me. thats what's throwing me off! maybe he's done this before and received a refund from paypal?

my 2 cents....I live in South Africa and have bought many times on the X, e.g. SF hull, motors, wholes skis etc, etc.over 30 k USD and counting...I know its a real PITA for members to ship internationally, especially to dodgy places so I do my best to make the seller comfortable to deal with me, I pay first, pay high shipping costs, no problem, give references like JM (hi Chris), etc, etc......I am hugely and forever grateful to all the Sellers (most who are mostly US based) who have without fail never ever disappointed me on what i have bought from them......they have treated me like any other "member"" on the X and go that extra mile to helping an international member out..a big shout out to them all, from me..again.......us foreign dudes love the sport as much as all you guys...we, as a rule happily pay X 2 the price for anything that gets shipped. (add shipping, import duties and VAT)...for 350 USD, which could be your only downside....its hard to imagine he would work that hard to scam you....and then lose his future requirements here on the X

Why would you take payment before even figuring out shipping? If anybody is nervous about getting scammed, it should be him.

Don't trust the Paypal payment receipts specially links that the buyer encloses in the e-mail. Check PayPal s own homepage to make sure that you get your money. It is quite common in Sweden that advertisers are contacted by for example Russians that wants to buy their goods and then they get a forged PayPal receipt.

Good to know!

Minin22 is for real. He's is sending me shipping labels. I'm gonna disassemble the motor for him to fit in 4 packages and send it to Russia. His English isn't that great, but its not his first language. Just wanted to update this thread just in case he wants to buy from other people on here.

I had a similar situation but on eBay. Things just didn't seem right so I emailed eBay, they looked into it and it ended up the buyer had used a stolen credit card to pay through PayPal.
Not sure how this can help you except letting you know it does happen.
