So i have the pole and it is epoxied getting ready to rivet it when i was reading that people suggest using 1/4-20 ss bolts. So i thought cool i will do that, but how do you do that and tighten them do you cut out the foam? drill all the way through? If any one has pictures of theirs that would be great.

Thanks,
Shane

It's pretty straight forward. Cut the foam before putting the pole back in the cast base. Re-use the stock backing plates and drill out the pole for The bolts. They aren't too hard to reach with a 1/4 inch ratchet and a socket or an open end jammed in there.

i would recommend using the bolts. I ended up ripping all the rivets out of the pole on a nose stab once and went to bolts and haven't had any issues. I just cut the foam back a little more to get to the nuts.

i drilled out the existing rivet holes to fit the bolts and used lock nuts so they wouldn't back out on me.

Use bolts on all of them. I didn't use the backing plates, instead I bought 1/4" SS fender washers. Its not that tough once you cut the foam back.

just check the spacing between rivet holes before drilling them out more. I was able to use my existing back plate though it was a little tougher to drill through.

I did the same upgrade you are doing. RN pole on a SN. Make sure to run a limiting rope cause that bracket doesn't have that rubber stop like the stock one does.

ok i don't have a backing plate i was going to use washers and lock nuts with 1 inch 1/4-20 bolts i only rivetid the 2 holes on each side and have 5 bolts holding it in so hopefully it will be fine and if not i have a spare pole :)
Thank you for all of the input. Do you have anymore suggestions?
