my friends at Crazy Joe's Customs decided to take advantage of the extra square nose superjet hull they had and make their own freestyle hull, pretty basic, took alot of glass work but product turned out well. Unfortunatly, it was the end of the season here in Michigan when we began work on it so we only had a few weekends to play around with it, one of which i cracked the hood after a failed 180 :aargh4: since then we have lowered the hood and re-shaped the nose, added a scupper and new air intakes. we only tested it with a stock (worn out) single carb 701 with b-pipe, MSD enhanser and exhaust resinator, performance was suprizingly well and was past our expectations. will have fresh motor and smaller prop next year along with new paint. will update with progress.

How much is it shortened by? Im gonna do some similar stuff this winter to my 650sx and was looking at it today and thinking of cutting 7 inches off the back which would fit my riding style. I know a shorter hull helps with freestlye, but why is that and how is handling affected?

it has been shortened aprox. 13inc. front and back combined. if you notice when you add an exteneded ride plate to your ski it rides smoother and with less porpoising or "hopping" caused by waves. take the ride plate totally off and its a completely different story. its kinda hard to explain whats really happening when you shorten it but ill put it this way, a longer hull displaces more water and has more pressure holding it up because it has more mass. a shorter hull displaces less water and has less mass which allows YOU (the center of gravity) to tip the ski backward and forward easier and allows more lift on a setup wake making it easy to backflip. if your gonna be cutting anything on that ski i would suggest getting another ski incase something goes wrong or just as a spare because a shortened freestyle hull isnt something you really wanna ride around the lake all day

But if you shorten it and have two ride plates (shortening mine would still allow me to have 4/6 of the fasteners hooked up for a full length plate), then have a short freestyle one, and a full length (or longer) rec one and just swap them out? Would that work?

Thanks a ton for that reply, I haven't been able to find any post/anyone able to tell me what shortening a hull does/doesn't.

no, not the way you want it to. by shortening the channels you are shortening the skis turn radius and effective edge, you will lose that downforce perminently. maybe you could use transom extentions, i think like protec maybe made them. guys?

you could probly save the old parts of the hull when you cut them off and fab your extensions off of that

Yea, kinda what I was thinking.

the only thing about that is they have to be removeable, its just easier to have a 2nd ski

And like you said, they'd have to be bolt on or something for easy freestyle -> rec ride and vice versa. We have two skis, both 650s. Usually when I ride my dad comes or I bring a friend, so my ski needs to have some rec ability as well. I'm in college though, so I don't have enough cash to go buy a superjet or some other machine for freestyle only for the next 3.5 years and want to ATTEMPT a backflip this summer. I need to squeeze every bit of freestyle I can get out of what I got, and shortening it looks like it'll help, just the whole aspect of being able to have a modular ride plate/rear extension for long rides or something.

i hope that 650 is worked pretty heavily, you might want to look into trim as apposed to a shortened hull.

all im tryin to say is what if your in this situation: chillen on the lake and showin off some freestyle stuff when your bros decide "lets go for a ride around the lake RIGHT NOW" would you rather A.) ride back to your house, pull the ski out, bolt on extensions as fast as you possibly can that probly dont help very much? or B.) park the ski, jump on the backup ski and ride away?

I have trim, and have to shorten it a bit anyhow for the trim to be able to fully deflect.

And I meant more of bolt on in the water on the beach type of setup. Like stick it on the trailer or on the dolly and get under it and bolt on an extended/widened ride plate. And due to being in college, can't get a backup ski; and the fact that the trailer is for two skis, one of which being the one the buddy I bring with me rides.

I honestly don't see why having a widened and extended ride plate wouldn't work? For a rec ride I would just want something that I can pull the old ride plate off, put that on, and not have it porpoise a ton when I'm riding.
