Single Or Dual Carbs

I noticed at Daytona that very few surf riders have twin carbs .
I'm having a carb problem and instead of rebuilding the ones I have I was thinking about switching to a single and buy brand new.

What does everyone use ,44 .46,48 ??
My motor has a B-pipe limited and I'm gonna get an MSD enhancer.

I like the idea of simple and easier to tune but dont want to sacrifice any bottom end.

Paul is also running a super high compression motor and is a mechanic .
He told me he likes twin but why do most peeps have single .
I don't care about top speed as I ride surf only

I guess if I was only riding surf I might go single but I do some WOT runs in lake erie.

A few people have told me that you need dual carbs with 62t though. I can't remeber why though.

I would consider a single if I lived by the ocean (less chance for water injestion, and big waves to get good air off of). On flat water IMO you want all the power you can get, and IMO you'll get more power with duals.

I think the reason people run single carbs for freeriding is because it is supposed to give you more bottom end hit. By trying to flow the same air through a single it increases the velocity and delivers fuel air faster or so they say. I havnt expiermented both ways so I cant say one way or the other. I think I would run duals. with big boring and porting I would think a single would be to restrictive.

Sharky over here was getting more water in his single than in his dual

BUt the single made for a huge loss of power compared to the duals
if you run the stock aircleaner on the duals you dont have an issue with water injeston

Im running a single novi 46 on a 760 w / b pipe on one boat.Im going back to daul 44 with stock air Its the way to go for allround riding.

I wouldn't say "most" people have a single at all unless most of them are running 61x cases. I had dual 44's, switched to a single Novi 48, went back to dual 44's.

Stock dual 38's are actually pretty hard to beat unless you go with oem dual 44's or Full Spectrums.

I am happy with my duals....and I've run dual 38s, and now dual 44s.

the oem 44s are awesome
and i will not sell those until i get out fo the sport
they are my winter carbs for my ski as well when i am not racing

I was talkin to Stoyer at the WF and he said he switched from the Single Novi 48 to duals to make more power. Which makes sense to me. He did it just before the WF he said.

It depends on how simple you want to keep your setup and how much you are willing spend and take the time to tune the duals correctly. I've always ran my dual Pro-tec modded taper bored 38's for the past 11 years and before that I ran a single 44. I am now switching to a set of OEM dual 44's on the stock 62T manifold, but still have my protecs carbs for my square. Am looking forward to the 44's.:headbang:

It used to be you could buy cheap oem 44s on ebay
those days are long gone
i have brought about 6 pairs in my time
I love them for preformance on a b-pipe
The next ski that i am building will be using those and b-pipe
and alot of other stuff i am getting together as well

Yeah....I paid 250 for my OEM 44's with R&D Manifold and K&N's

I'm only asking this cause it seemed like a lot of the motors I saw at Daytona had single setups .
A lot had duals too but it seemed like a lot more ran singles ,maybe I just didn't see inside enough boats.
Maybe I'll just rebuild my two 38's and try that to see if my carb rpoblem is solved
