Sj carb help

My buddy's 05 sj will not run unless the choke is half on. What adjustment fixes that. Also it seems to be loading up on the top end bc after we run it hard for a minute it just dies and won't start for a few seconds

thanks guys!

Protech dry pipe and dual mikuni whatever is stock is.
He bought it modded and bearly running I can't think of anything else

It may not be tuned incorrectly. Choke on usually means it's running lean when the choke is off. If you bought it assembled and poorly running, it is likely gummed up. Take the carbs apart, clean them, be sure to check the internal fuel filter on the pump side, reassemble and test with a popoff gauge. Check your tuning with a tach before you stomp on it.

If it still runs poorly after the carbs have been confirmed to be working properly, update us at that time.

Stock 05 superjet carbs are dual 38mm mikuni SBN with a slave carb, jetting is 130/70@52. Write down your current stuff when you take it apart to clean it. Be sure to count the number of turns the screws are out by turning them in all the way before you remove them.

Your notes will look like this, these are stock settings, you probably shouldnt have these numbers with that pipe.
High screw -
Low screw -
Main jet - 130
Pilot jet - 70
Popoff - 52
Needle/seat - 1.5
spring - 115g

Usually these numbers are the same for both carbs except maybe the high speed screw setting. Popoff should always be the same +/- about 1-2 psi.

Is everything marked? What bout spring How's that tested? Needle seat?

I just don't know what to expect when i start taking it apart lol. Rather be informed. I've read a lot of stuff but it's nice to have that assurance! Thanks guys

You need to download the mukini sbn manual. Its a short read and will help you understand how ther carb works. A better understanding of how it works will help you understand how to diagnosis it.
