SJ Pump locked up.

The stainless wear ring on my back up boat pump has swolen and froze the impellor. Was working great until it sat for a couple months. Is there a 'Back yard' fix for this? Or should I send it off to have a new liner put in.

to get back on the water cheap I had a machine shop hone one once. they had a large hone for tractor cylinders. a new liner is the way to go but sometimes you just need to get back on the water fast

speaking of, what should the clearance be?

I fear mine is larger than it should be. ( freshwater, no swelling liners to deal with)

Ketsair and I had jokingly talked about brushing epoxy all into the pump to decrease the impeller tip to wear ring gap.

I might try that.

.024 is the limit and don't do that yuck!

Well maybe on Ketsair's pump because it looks like it was sitting on the ocean floor for years.

thats what got me to thinking about it. his has MASSIVE clearance, mine is not so bad.

I dont see the harm though, brush it , sand off the HIGH spots, let the impeller self clearance the rest, it probably wont last all season though.
