Does a jetworks/water bypass make much of a difference? If I remove the choke plates am I going to have to rejet/tune the carbs? Are aftermarket flame arrestors/adapters going to make much of a difference? Are there any other tweaks that can be done to a stock sj motor such as jetting cutting out baffles in the hood or any other simple mods that aren't going to affect reliability? I basicaly want a stockclass ski but I'm not going to race it. I am going to hold off on pump/handling stuff until 2008 specific parts come out.
Thanx

A B-pipe and a prop are probably the best things you can do. All the other little things all put together will not add up to the difference a pipe will make.

A question for those that know more than me: There are a bunch of DIY mods to Kawasaki 650SX exhaust that a supposed to really help, basically limiting the amount of water injected ("drying the pipe out") and adding a stinger to the cone. The Superjet exhaust is totally different, but I have wondered if there was a similar type of mod that could be done. Anyone ever tried anything?

I don't want to get a pipe and the 08's come with a stainless prop. If I get a pipe then I will have to get a girdled head and there is no way I would be able to order domes with stock compression. It will just end with me building a ski with way too much power and no reliability. Just going to keep it simple and reliable for now.

a SLIGHT increase in compression and a pipe installation ( jetted properly) will not be any less reliable than the stock setup.

but it sure will run better.

That it good news on the prop.

You don't need a girdled head for a B-pipe. You don't have to have increased compression, it helps though.

Anyone make a thin metal head gasket? That seems like an easy/cheap way to get a little compression.

Just leave the stock airbox, take 2 screens out, rejet slightly, if you want easier starting add a primer kit and drill in nipples for the lines and leave in the stock choke butterflys. A 'B' pipe is a great adddition with no fuss and leave the stock head alone. Get an MSD enhancer
or mod the stock CDI's revlimiter, a prop and your set, other than handling goodies. Totally stock Superjets kind of suck after the first 30 minutes!

As your a novice, and do you really want to be me? (A engine builder/tuner for over 30 years).
Much easier to tune ski without removing them... the choke butterflys change the fuel curve quite a bit if you remove them!

Crap... wish I knew that... I pulled them out when I put in my primer kit cuz it was in the dumb directions.... DOH! (That's what I get for reading the directions...)

I imagine I will still get-er-done... but removing those plates was kinda a pain in the azz cuz both screw heads busted off on both plates, so I had to file down the threads that still stuck out on both shafts to pull them out...

the screws aren't supposed to come out .theyre' crushed on the back side so they dont fall out into your motor
You have to cut them off .

Oh... lol... I guess that would explain why they all broke... I just figured they used some green threadlocker or something...

Thanks for the info man! I learned something new today.

Thanks for all the input guys. The first things that I am getting rid of are the bars, grips, and throttle. I can't stand the stock bars or grips and I have been known to break stock throttles. My last two skis I just threw all the parts I could buy at them and didn't really pay attention to the overall setup.

They are still crushed on the underside so they don't back out and fall into your motor .
you got lucky on half of yours .

i have just unscrewed any ive ever taken out

i just pulled the four screws on my choke butterflys yesterday and they all came right out, well two broke but the other two threaded right out.

i used a vice grip then a phillips.
