Skis are really stinking up my garage!

We were ski-free for 3 months while we got settled into the new house and I was enjoying that the new garage wasn't permeated with the smell of gas fumes like the last one.

I always assumed it was the fuel jugs but they have been here all along. We finally brought the skis home last Sunday and now the garage just reeks again. Anytime we open the garage, the smell drifts into the house and is really bothering us.

I can't tell if it's the WD-40 I spray on the engine or the injection oil itself, or a mixture of the two. Stale gas cause they sit so much?

I'll pressure wash them inside and out and run some fresh gas through them but I'm curious if anyone else have this problem?

Are the fuel tank check valves working ? Not open venting vapors in the summer heat in other words. Or system pressurizing and seeping at a hose connection or via the needle and seat.

Home Depot sells activated charcoal filters I could lay over each engine bay. Cheap enough to test out anyways. $10 each and they are good for 3 months.

I am working on getting my A/C installed so if the charcoal system works, I may be able to add a filter to my A/C and let it scrub the air. Either that or a stand alone recirculating air filtration system.

It doesn't take much fuel to seep from (insert object here). Aftermarket jetski fuel cells are notorious for leaky grommets. Ever since I switch to a limited slip tank i've never had the fuel smell issue.

I store my 4 skis in the garage, some full, some nearly empty- climate controlled, keeping the temperature civil. Never noted any smell. I keep the stinking gas cans outside in the heat.

I too store cans and skis (hoods off) in my garage. Our HVAC air handler is in the garage too and when we first moved in, the wife would complain of "jet ski smell" as she calls it in the house when the a/c kicks on. Not really a pre mix smell but definitely fluid film smell from the engine bay. I sealed up the seams on the air handler and connecting duct work and it's gotten better. My flame arrestors stink like fuel and I found some tupperware like containers that fit tight over them (work perfect to seal off intake when hosing out the engine bay after riding surf too).

If it's not the one way valves then you may have a small leak somewhere like a hose fitting when the garage warms up thru the day. Possibly a leaky primer dripping into a carb?

Garages usually don’t have any type of circulation and don’t have ventilation. If you can get some sort of ceiling mounted fan and a fresh air vent, I think that will be your best option.

The OCD Garage has a 94” big ass fan moving 9000 CFM.

All it does is guarantees equal dispersement of said fumes.

I don't like the sound of a pressure washer - too much chance of the water forcing its way into where it shouldn't be, or getting under the edge of stickers/wrap and causing them to lift. Maybe a more gentle approach?

I need one of those for my garage.

Any way to get fresh air in and stale air out is probably the only solution. I had to install a 20” louvered wall fan in my workshop to keep the stink out.

I also have four 'ski's (2 Superjets and 2 X2's) with stock fuel systems stored in a single garage and never get even so much as a whiff of fuel. You may have a problem with one of yours. Maybe store them in your garage one at a time to determine which one is the naughty one?

I sleep in my camper next to my skis, and they don't stink. Now my friends old x2, we have to throw that thing out side, sticks like fuel bad.
