Super Jet Slow to crank even with new starter and battery!!!!!

BB 850 super jet with 180 psi of compression.

It cranks over slow 3 times then it cant even turn the motor over. If you grab the coupler and turn it by hand it feels normal, if it has no spark plugs it turns over easy. It acts like a dead battery. But my ballistic battery when swapped out cranks my stock sj over like its pissed. I have a dry cell battery I swapped in it too and same thing. Even with the charger on its better but still only turns it over like 3 times. Then it cant turn it over untill it cools down or something.

if the timing is way advanced it can do that and i saw one time where a washer was behind the bendix and also a washer in front of the bendix, so when the cover was tightened, it bound the bendix up. loosen the front cover bolts a little bit and see if it cranks normal.

Well if it turns over easy w/o the plugs but not with them in I would still think it is a weak battery. Have you tried jumping from a known strong battery? If so and it still is not working I would check the starter relay, it may not be sending enough current through, a local rider had this happen recently but the relay crapped out almost immediately after the slow cranking.

Battery im 99% sure its good two different batteries both on the charger at 15 volts still the same. Thought it might be the timing so I unplugged the spark plugs still the same. I will try the starter cover. I hope its not the bendix ugh thats the only part i didnt order. Plus the suck to change. I do have a new relay coming prob tomorrow. I will find my multi meter and put it on the starter.

my brand new WDK 1200 motor was slow cranking and i found one tooth busted off the bendix big gear that connects to the starter. replaced that and it cranked a million miles an hour. i dont know what that snaggle tooth was doing but that was the problem.

Sounds like an issue with the bad cables to me. As soon as a load is put on the starter (ie plugs in the engine) the wires can't handle the current draw or you put a junk starter in it. Check power cables and your grounds.

I had a similar problem ended up being paint on the starter not making a good contact with the ground cable. Sanded down works perfectly ever since. Good luck

Run a second ground lead from your battery negative to your flywheel front cover bolt and your problem will be solved, seen this same problem a few times and this sorts it..

Your original earth is likely fubar, this allows you to bypass it to prove the fault - you can then replace it or leave the new one.. It's just a quick 5x min way to check if the earthing is the issue without ripping your ski to bits..

I have this same issue every time I fire my Dasa 1200 up for the first time in a couple days. I have to crank it, wait a few minutes, crank, wait and repeat until it fires and after it fires that first time it fires easily every time. I thought it was just because I'm running 220psi compression, I guess I'll see if adding another ground helps.

I believe I have kinda found the issue. I swear I tried two different batteries with the old starter and it still did the same thing.

I put an ebay starter rebuild kit in (both bearings were wrong had to use the old one super lame) then put that starter in and still no luck on the dry cell battery so I charged it and BLAM cranks all pissed off like. OK sweet swap the Ballistic batt back in Hook the charger to it, it says 12.4 volts and 100% hit the green button. Slow crank crank dead.

SO ballistic will be receiving my 12 cell battery next week.

I am guessing it was partially a dieing starter and a ballistic battery with a dead cell or something.

I am getting an ebay starter, solinoid, and stator in the mail tomorrow so I will have a spare setup if need be.

If it tries to crank over slower and slower the more you try, as if the battery is dying rapidly, I would bet on the rectifier.

I had this same issue and it basically felt like my battery was dead or nearly dead all the time. If the rectifier is bad it can make the battery weak or make it feel like it is dead.

Nope, in the ebox. You have 4 things in the ebox. You have the CDI (Brains), the coil (Fires your plugs), the starter solenoid (Powers your starter), and the rectifier (AC from stator to DC to charge battery and run your electronics).
